He is a legitimate track athlete, so I'm not sure this is a loophole that could easily be exploited.

He’s actually a track & field athlete though. This probably applies to a few dual sport athletes in the country, but I guess we could always go recruit some sprinters to return kicks

Xavier Carter, Bennie Brazell, Eddie Kennison, were all dual sport athletes as well..
Hell I think Eddie was an all-american sprinter.

Not sure how nobody has mentioned Jelani Watkins. Currently on the roster as a WR, but is a track athlete with elite 100m times

Saban loved the defensive linemen that did field events in high school. At one time only 1 player in his 2 deep didn't do field events in high school. Not sure how many still did it in college, probably not many.

If Lacy/TC transfered to other schools using this, Ole Piss would explode

Watkins transferred to Arkansas. Not sure if there are any current dual sport players on the football roster.

Wishful thinking, but these athletes shouldn't be eligible for any other sport with an expired portal window for the upcoming season.

I hear everyone saying, yeah but this is a legitimate track athlete. These days what makes them legit. The NCAA allowed biological men to compete as women just because they said so. Surely a football player has enough athletic skills to say they want to “walk on” as a track and field guy and be more legitimate than a trans person.
Point is, how can this be shut down. They let the Genie out of the bottle.

Pretty sure that players on the football team can't have scholarships to other sports to get around the football scholarship limit.

Although now with NIL that probably doesn't matter as much.

To be clear, I think if a player does both, his scholarship counts against the football allotted amount, right? If so, not sure the loophole will fly.

Not sure how NIL comes into play. Depends on who's paying him to distinguish probably?

So it doesn't really matter what sport he enters the portal in.

The football transfer window has already passed, and he is not eligible for football this season unless he plays at UCLA.

my thoughts exactly

This guy may be able to transfer, but pretty sure the rule will say he won't be eligible to play football for UCLA this fall

Unless something has changed, if an athlete participates in two sports with one being football, it is mandatory that they are in a football scholarship. This was to prevent this exact situation.
