We knew they (and the DL) could but most likely would be a problem this season. Hope next year we have a complete team. No excuses

Every report says that teams is going to the d with DBs being competitive as hell. They also say individual stuff is geared to the offense, and as expected the O is winning. The last couple days have a lot of nice talk about an aggressive fast, risk taking defense. I think I agree with this 100% we dont have the bodies to get pushed up and down the field on some kind of bend not break, we need to get turnovers and negative plays and get off the field a few times a half.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that our top 3 recievers will all be gone by day two of the draft?

I don't think they're bad kids, just don't have a lot of confidence, passion, and swag right now. DB's need to have some FU in them. The raw talent is there though

You have to have confidence to even play cornerback. It's the hardest position on defense.

No one said Hunt said this in this thread until after I posted I don't think, but I'm still just talking in general to the people on this board that freak out about this shite.

I did and SFVtiger did as well. That’s why I said you should either read the thread or listen to his actual show.

Seems like he is intentionally trying to set the bar low or maybe he is still scarred from last year

Or he's just giving his honest assessment from what he's seen, which matches what we've all seen from the practice videos.

Our media got burned last year after watching what we actually were vs FSU. They saw bad DB play, but were afraid to admit what was actually happening.

This year they are extremely hesitant to give any credit and I can’t blame them one bit. They are in wait and see mode.

We are playing pretty good team defense and getting torched in 1v1. I’d say that’s evident of better coaching and worse talent, which is the opposite of what we had last year.

If the D-line improves this will also help the DB's by due to the QB not having as much time to throw the ball cutting down their covering time

According to Scone, offense wins most 1v1s across the board. They should, they’re more talented across the board.

You would beat you 10 out of 10 times; and it doesn’t matter who you is. Without pressure on the QB, and help from some quadrants, a DB is almost helpless

Team sessions with pressure and limited sight are being won by defense a lot of the times. 1 on 1 with QB in easy mode is hard to stop.

BR desperately needs better sports talk in the afternoon.

From the VERY limited clips I’ve seen the DBs are in decent position but our receivers are making fantastic catches.

That’s encouraging, because Lacy/Hilton/Sampson have all had drop issues that needed to be addressed especially rolling with a pocket passer this season.

If Raymond and Baker can just get them to cover their assignment, they’ve already made a huge jump.

Last year they were so confused they weren’t even sure who was covering where, which is a huge problem in House’s scheme.

ETA: It’s a really low bar for this years defense to be better. I actually expect it to be across the board just by virtue of having no other direction to go.

Even Flynn today talked about how much better the O is during 7 v 7 and 1 v 1. That was in all football not just college. The same people then say during 11 v 11 they’re competing and making plays. It will take time, but the o will do their best to not make games track meats.

32 downvotes for the most honest opinion so far. LSU fans just can’t take bad news in August. The defense isn’t going to be very good.

They are going against an offense that will most likely light up most teams they face this year and it is still early on . If they can reduce major coverage busts and play assignments like they are coached there has to be improvement compared to last year .

Or maybe he’s giving an honest real opinion since this is practically the same exact clown show of a secondary as they had last year.

I actually believe him because I’m sure he’s not sugar coating it like most want to do.
Or, he can't tell the difference in improvement. Funny how the guy brought this up days after Hunt stated it on 1 on 1 drills. EVERYBODY else said similar things about those drills, but the difference is, when they got to 11 on 11, it was completely different. It's funny how you believe the one guy acting completely emotional about the 1 on 1s, but completely disregard EVERYBODY else who spoke on how bad the 1 on 1s were, but also praised the 11 on 11s. Baker praised the hell out of Perkins, and their were clips of him getting in the backfield and taking down Kaleb Jackson from the inside. Saivion Jones got past Will Campbell. DL was getting push.

It's almost like these DBs play better in a game setting where the rest of the defense does its part. You already know you don't have a Stingley or other type of guys like that back there. What you do have is guys who are learning and developing and winning a couple reps vs the freaks we have at receiver and TE.

However i will say this, after that freakout video on the secondary 1 on 1s and 7 on 7s, he did praise them during his segment on the defense as a whole during the 11 on 11s later.
