Arnspargar had LSU looking like a pro team. Didn't need to depend on 2 coordinators. Defense was rock solid. Solid trajectory upward during his tenure. Won (and tied) big games. Had LSU on track to a dynasty that a well intentioned but over his head Archer derailed. I think Arnspargar was LSU's second best all time coach.

Arnsparger took over after Sovall had one of the best freshmen recruited classes ever, at that time.

Most on here are too young, but this is not talked about enough. Arnspargar was gonna do great things here.

Former US Marine, Arnsparger was not only a great coach but a solid man. Not sure he would have surpassed Saban but if at LSU longer he might have.

Arnsparger > Kelly, I mean that isn’t even arguable. Arnsparger was a very good NFL coach, Kelly is a mid major type guy with recruiting ability. They’re not on the same level

Arnsparger I wonder if fans were mad about the 3 losses in year 3? Or the 0-3 in bowl games.

Stovall also redshirted a pile of talent that Arnsparger inherited. I do think he was a very good coach, but he ruined our program for many years by selling his mental midget assistant to the BOS so he could hire Stevie Superior at UF when he got there.

Yeah the Nebraska Sugar Bowls and little bugaboo to Miami Ohio plus a few to OM and the Bama tie were not fun but otherwise was pretty solid!

Safe to say the NFL won’t be stealing Kelly from us like they did Arnsparger and Kelly has 0 SEC championships.

He was the coach while I was in school there. Those were some solid teams and fun to watch. It was too bad he did not stay longer.

a slight twisting of what happened.
yes he did recommend Archer over Spurrier.
but he didn't hire Spurrier until 3 years later at Florida.
and only after Florida's coach got fired for NCAA rules violations.
so it's not like the Archer over Spurrier was to keep Spurrier "available" to him.
