Also yes he recruited “dirty” but Wade was also good at identifying under valued talent. His money ball strategy is another pro for LSU if we can’t spend as much as the blue bloods

You can't compare 1970's to now. It's not even close. We're in a different era of NIL, transfer, etc. Five years was acceptable back then, it's not anymore. I don't really have any dog in the fight for basketball, but regardless of the sport, the expectation in 2026 is the same.

Dale had charisma, Dale was a go getter, Dale promoted the program

McFailure is/has done nothing.

Compared to other SEC schools we’re spending just as much as Alabama and they’re competing for SEC and final fours each year under Nate Oats

I’m old enough to remember before extremely hostile social media clicks were prevalent when our basketball program was in a very similar plight. In the early 70s, Dale Brown took over our basketball program that was dead after the Maravich years, and had to be completely rebuilt.

Do you even hear yourself? That was literally 50 years ago. It's completely incomparable.

Not even Rick Mattick, or Dwayne "Astronaut" Scales, or Greg "The Cookie Man" Cook.

You know, there was a time when LSU basketball was fun. Nobody remembers that time nowadays

This year’s budget was more than $9 MM, about middle of the pack. We finished dead last.

I agree w/ everyone who's said there's no comparison between college basketball now and then, much less the personalities of the two coaches. In addition, MM's coaching record for the first 4 years is worse than was DB's, especially in league play.
Dale Brown, '72-75
Overall 48-54, 47%.
SEC 26-46, 36%

Matt McMahon,'23-26
Overall 60-70, 46%
SEC 17-55, 24%

I was there. LSU when Dale was hired could not out recruit the state schools for basketball players. He first team the Hustlers played very well and were exciting. Thrre is no comparison to that era and now.

McMahon is Curley Hallmon part 2. Joe Dean was too cheap to fire him and hire a good coach. Verge has to show his metal here and get this program in the right direction.
