Les trusts Harris, just not enough to put the game on his shoulders, yet

In the grand scheme of things I think the reliance on the run game was the right decision in the long run.
It was only the second start for Brandon and it was on the road in a hostile environment against the team that torched us at home last season. Brandon did exactly what Les asked of him to do which was manage the game and don't make stupid mistakes.
Les didn't ask Harris to go out and put on a Dak like performance. When your O-line is dominating like it was and you have these types of RB's at your disposal, there's no reason to ask Harris to win the game for you especially in the season opener.
I think as the season progresses and Brandon Harris starts to settle in, you will see a much more balanced offense because the coaches will be much more comfortable with Harris airing the ball out more often.
It's just too early to be banging your head against a wall about play calling. If you consider all of the circumstances in this situation, I think the coaches (for the most part) made the right choice not to put too much of the weight on Brandon's shoulders.

I imagine this is obvious to anyone. Except LSU fans.

Finally a logical explanation for last night's play calling
But the people that need to get this can't read

Logic in the rant. Good luck with that.

We all need to remember how slowly we brought Mett along as well.

I understand your message, but what if we lost? Would you hold the same argument?
If White didn't break up that final pass, we'd be 0-1 right now and everyone and their dog would be rightfully bitching about how we needed to throw more....or even run in the 4th and 1.5-2 to milk the clock and essentially end the game.

There can be a middle ground between 75 yards passing and 300 yards passing.

Without those 2 penalties, Brandon Harris has over 200 yards passing. The penalties on explosive plays are another thing that is crippling this offense early in the season. Hopefully it gets fixed.

I would still have the same argument because it was the 1st game of the season and this team is just getting warmed up. When the players are fresh, they showed what they're capable of.

I rember a 39 yard TD to Dural and about a 22 yarder to Chi ruled incomplete. If what you're saying is true there was about a 95 yard pass play reversed by penalty. I must have missed it.

Bingo. Good post.

Les is a fricking clown who's philosophy is stuck in the 1970's. This guy has completely taken the joy out of LSU football. I can't imagine LSU being a title contender under Miles unless ha changes philosophies... and we all know that's not happening.

Your subject is perfect, not sure why so many cannot grasp such a simple convept

So you're saying wait till they let him loose next year?
At lsu it takes 3 years to develop qbs

The answer to that question is: We didn't lose.

They started taking the chains off Mett 3/4 of the way through his first season (Bama). I think we'll see a similar approach from Miles with Harris for as long as possible.
Yes, at some point t you do have to throw caution to the Wind, but I'm not gonna get pissy in game 1

That was metts 2nd year at lsu. His first they chose to not get him any game reps even though we blew out most of the teams we played. For some reason or another this staff has no foresight when it comes to QB development.
Look around college football...teams have won championships with freshmen qbs ...why is it other staffs are able to develop qbs faster than lsu?

For the most part, I agree with you. As frustrated as I was, I'm optimistic again moving forward.
My real issue with the whole thing is that I feel like completely taking the pass away from him is a shot to his confidence after a solid first half. He's going to need confidence to get through the year as a young player. This is a tough league, and experience is huge. Without experience, confidence is all you've got to really elevate above the nerves and intimidation of playing this schedule.
If they slowly give him more and more freedom, I'll be happy overall. I just don't want the process to end up eating him alive because he can never build real confidence in his game just like a lot of our recent quarterbacks. There isn't going to be another guy who is more of a fit for what Miles has seemed to want in a QB since day one than Brandon Harris so we need to take advantage of that while he's here.
