Les might not have recruited quite as well at aTm as he did at LSU, but his basic formula would have been the same and would have worked—good defense with a boring and safe offense would have won him 8-9 games a year with the occasional 10.

Kevin Sumlin had a better record than Jimbo through 5 years

Jimbo 37-21 through 58 games 1 losing season
Sumlin 42-16 through 58 games. no losing seasons.

Les was much better than that at LSU. He won 11 or more games more often than 8 and 9 combined.

Can’t say that for sure, Les was horrible at Kansas. They showed dramatic improvement after he left!
