Les Miles is 64, he WAS a good coach. Why is it so hard for some to grasp that coaches have a life cycle?

Because of Saban and Snyder coaching into their 70's

If the guy couldn't coach, as people suggest, then the larger sample size would have exposed Miles as a bad coach.

Saban at Alabama is not the same coach as Saban at LSU but he was and is a great recruiter as well as a very good coach. Him being at Alabama hurt LSU and Miles on multiple fronts. Without Saban at Bama, I honestly believe that LSU under Miles wins a national championship in 2011 and probably plays for 1 or 2 more.

I don't think many would dispute that Saban is a better coach than Miles at this point in his career but his record at LSU was up and down. Might he have hit a plateau of top finishes like he has at Alabama, possibly. But I wonder is his experience in the NFL impacted him in a way that made him an even better coach?

also who had to do a complete rebuild from a LOSING TEAM.

Dinardo had 2 straight losing seasons but it wasn't due to a lack of talent, he had 3 straight winning seasons prior after taking over possibly the worst team in LSU history. I think the total rebuild is at least a slightly overblown narrative. The 3-8 1999 team had 1 point losses to #11 (finished #14) Georgia and and #12 (finished #13) Miss State as well as losing by 6 to #12 (finished #8) Alabama. The 4-7 1998 team lost 5 games by 6 or less, one of those in OT.

Ultimately, I guess I'm just tired of people dogging Miles. He and Saban oversaw the best stretch of LSU football I have seen in my lifetime and probably the best ever (I'd have look back to verify). This is our 18th straight winning season.

Here's to O continuing the tradition and hopefully he will become the winningest LSU coach ever!

Well there you go...assuming I'm a coach o supporter.

Not.

But let's see...Miles averaged 3-4 losses a season since 2011.

Isn't Coach O..the supposed retard possibly going 9-3 his first year....hmm and maybe finis 3rd in Sec even after a loss to troy

I agree. He was a good coach in his own right for the first part of his time here. By the end it was clear that it was past time for him to go. Maybe it is just me, but he seemed off the last couple of years, like there was something wrong with him. I'm not surprised that no one is looking to hire him, and he is young enough that it is not entirely an age thing.

Somebody will hire him. But depends on if he will want it. He will make a great coach somewhere.

Les Miles still can't Coach? by rrboyThe game has passed him by. Get over it

As I've stated before, ESPN has done in GoodOleLess. All those games on primetime TV with the whole country watching is why nobody wants to hire him . Even North Dakota A&M decided not to hire him. It's time he pursued another career field, or just throw in the rag. Every job opening, & no phone calls must be leading to PTSD & depression For The Hat.

Why do people still start threads about Les? He's not our coach anymore so just let it go. It doesn't matter at this point if he can or can't coach because he doesn't coach LSU anymore.

hmmmmmm

You mean like people have tried to hire Saban from Alabama, or Stoops from Oklahoma, or Meyer from Ohio State.....

Saban has had his named rumored for NFL jobs, Stoops was always linked to Florida, Les had his named floated to Michigan and Arkansas.

People who act like that is some indication of a "good" coach are ignorant

Les got fired end of story

He didn't get fired for winning.lol

He got fired for losing Sec conference games.

Go check his conference record for the last 5 seasons and quit bitching...he is fired...gone..never coming back..

No more retarded claps on national tv..no more eating grass on national tv...no more stupid looking hat...and thank god no more press conferences to hear his stupid answers.

Lol

maybe people should remember he gets $10 million a year to stay home and watch the grass grow so his lack of employment means nothing.

is he a good coach, yes

is he a great coach, meh, not in my mind

do people not give him enough credit for doing well here, yes

do people blame him too much for being sabans bitch, i think so, like it or not saban "is" a great coach and beats better teams all the time by out coaching them. our team this year was better then alabama and should have won that game but we clearly got outcoached rather then outplayed.

the majority of miles early success was because he took over sabans team packed with unbelievable talent and had great success with it. that success as well as his ability to BS/recruit players brought in good recruits that helped him win many games despite HUGE coaching blunders and piss poor game plans, and sometimes literally no game plan at all. such as the year we had that second meeting with alabama where they used the same game plan as the first game and didnt even practice hard, in fact he bragged they were getting extra rest and didnt need to prepare because they knew alabama well and they were going to go out there and just have fun. well while many here will want to deny it, i think most objective observers will admit he conceded the second game as unwinnable and didnt even put any serious effort into it.

Isn’t he getting 150K a month from LSU to pursue other jobs? I wouldn’t coach either. Just call up the schools with openings and say “hey, how about we do lunch”.

Wtf...

Did you not watch the last 4 seasons of Les Miles era.

All the clock mismanagement ...no pass offense...running players in the ground with the same 6 plays over and over again.

Ok...little secret. Miles is not here anymore
