At this point, it's probably in EP's best interest to move on somewhere like UT where he has a better chance for playing time anyway.

No he was already a douche. Apparently he is adept at managing recruits as he is at clock management.

1. before NSD, miles never brought up a greyshirt possibility. if LSU had intended porter as a greyshirt possibility, then they are bound to make this 100% clear to porter before he agrees. otherwise LSU is fraudulently inducing him to make this agreement.
2. porter signed with LSU on NSD, binding him to LSU for 1 year
3. a month before practice, LSU pulls his scholarship offer (while he is bound to LSU) for 2009-2010
it is CLEARLY a breach of contract by LSU
Until they actually give you something they haven't given it to you
Kids make verbal commitments to schools all the time they don't honor... I don't think we want to go the route of having kids and schools suing and counter-suing each other over who decides to go where or who actually has to grey shirt
Even tho that would probably be another revenue generator for the legal profession

the question is, "had porter known he was a GS possibility, would he have signed with LSU in the first place?"
seeing as the # of recruits LSU signed was highly publicized... and he was not considered one of the elite signees
He has no argument there IMO

+1
He evidently couldn't make the D and was moved to OL. He was offered by ULM, ULL, Tech MooSU and others where he could've been more
"indispensible".
He took a chance and it didn't pan out.

Was just checking out Vol Nation:
Dunno if this means EP decides to accept the greyshirt from LSU, or is looking elsewhere.
But it doesn't look like Knoxville is his destination.

Kind of like Petrino signing a felon,Zhamal Thomas, that Miles booted from his team.
Petrino has trouble recruiting qualified players.Petrino will never have to worry about having too many qualified recruits. He signed 32 in '09.

half the schools in the sec do this. i dont see what the problem is? it is not ilegal and if he would have accepted the grey shirt we would naver have had countless threads on this. And when he does accept it then it still wont be a big deal.

I disagree.
The only thing that has been harmed is Porter's pride. I can certainly understand why he is not happy.
But, if he ends up waiting until the Spring, he's going to be in exactly the same position he expected to be in. There is plenty of opportunity for young OL on this team.

Needs to try his luck at OC.

quote:Except with an extra year of eligibility. If he enrolled this fall and was on the team, his eligibility would expire before the 2015 season. If he waits until January to enroll and join the team (as Miles requested) his eligibility will not expire until after the 2015 season. So unless he was really expecting to have an impact this fall, he's just ending up with another year of growth and physical development in his upperclassman years (when he would reasonably be expected to contribute).
But, if he ends up waiting until the Spring, he's going to be in exactly the same position he expected to be in.
And yes I do see this as a positive for him in the long run, and I do think it would be a better option for almost every offensive lineman who doesn't have a realistic shot at significant playing time as a true freshman.

spin the horrid timing of telling the kid 24 hrs before he starts Fall practice after 3 months of busting his arse w/ his teammates after having been promised a full ride for the '10 season
Huh? Are you kidding me?
Let me get this straight: You say that a kid has busted his arse for 3 months, and then right before the fall starts, the coaches tell him, "Son, instead of REDSHIRTING and busting your arse for another 4 months and not playing one down of football, we want you to train during the fall and enroll in the Spring. You will still be able to get the best public education in the state for free, and you will still have 4 years to play for this team."
You douchebags are trying to tell me that we are fricking the kid over?? Really. I would love to have been in his situation at 18. No one is getting fricked on the deal. He did not get fricking cut for the last time!

....but would he have came to LSU if he knew he was going to be grayshirted------? thats where i have a problem-----seems like lsu was deceiving him (whether they were intentionally or not)

According to an Aggie buddy of mine, A&M has offered Porter and have desperate need of D-lineman. This could end up working out incredibly well for him since he wouldn't have played a down this year at LSU whether or not he grey shirted. So, now he has the option of going and playing immediately for A&M or taking some time off, signing with LSU in the Spring, and playing for LSU for 4 years whilst going to school for free.
I feel really bad for this kid. Really tough situation.

Hell maybe LSU didn't know he was going to be greyshirted.
But even if he was deceived, his playing time is NOT affected by this, and he get's an added year of eligibility as well as STILL having a scholarship. If that is getting "deceived" , then I wouldnt' mind getting deceived quite a bit more.

Well, could be worse... he has a choice between a free ride and playing time at A&M... and a six month wait for a free ride at LSU

Might have been asked before, but
If he transfers to another BCS school does he have to sit out a year?
