I’m watching a bunch of old lsu games. Give Les credit, we were just as talented as Alabama year in and year out. Talent level dropped when coach O arrived except 1 magical year. Hot take, coach o was an average recruiter.

I was a good recruiter he was a bad roster manager. He was good at going out and getting the guy he wanted a

He was bad at picking the right guys and making sure we had depth everywhere every year.

Les knew how to recruit an offensive line and could rely on beating teams not named Alabama with bully ball up until the end of his tenure when the game passed him by. Orgeron’s teams minus 2019 didn’t really have any identity.

Les gets alot of hate for his offense but you gotta admit it was a beautiful thing when we were wearing down teams and ripping off long run after long run and knowing the other team couldnt do anything to stop it. We even accomplished this against some pretty good teams. Downfall was always the bama game because they had the athletes to match what we were trying to do.

I’m not so sure I agree with this. Seemed like he recruited from the inside out instead of the outside in. Too many times we would miss on a lot of elite OT’s and would utilize guards to play left and right tackle. I do think Miles must have emphasized physicality in practice though because our teams would hit you across the board on both sides of the ball when he was coaching us. We might not always win the games but I would have bet on his teams in fist fights. In fairness I need to go back and see who he recruited and helped develop at OT.

Agreed.

Say what you want about O, but no one in college football history successfully recruited and wasted more talent than Les Miles.

He is the greatest waster of talent in the history of the game.

You're a moron.

He won a natty and played for another. He wasted talent but he isn't the greatest at wasting it. Not even close.

Led recruited the type of line he needed to run his philosophy and he could coach them up to do it well. His problem is his philosophy didn't work the last 5 years of his tenure. College football had made the shift and Les wasn't willing to follow it.

Our run of LTs under Les is pretty impressive.

Whitworth (Saban recruit)
Ciron ('06-'09)
Barksdale ('10)
Chris Faulk ('11-'12)
La'el ('13-'14)
Jerald Hawkins ('15)
Malone ('16)

Beyond that, we were probably top-10 in sending OL to the NFL under Les. Contrary to popular opinion OL talent was not a problem. Being predictable on offense was.

'bout even as recruiters. Both had screwed-up football philosophies. Maybe that deserves its on thread.

First letter should be O unless you are an Orgeron alter and forgot to hide that fact

And this is what I have been telling people forever. O is a great recruiter, he just isn't good at figuring out what he needs to direct his recruiters to focus on year in and year out.

I know a guy who thinks O is the greatest recruiter in LSU history. He claims that O is along with the Saban the greatest coach in LSU history. He said that when O was fired that USC and Miami would beating down the door to hire O.

Orgeron built the 15-0 perfect season team in 3 years.

Trying to recreate the 2019 unicorn is what brought him down. Foolish and impossible.

You’re an imbecile if you think that is acceptable.

Any decent HC wouldve won multiple NC’s with that talent.

Les was better at everything that deals with running a program than O. He was just too hard headed when it came to changing his offense
O was was willing to adapt on offense but then he tried to recreate the same offense with totally different players and coaches
