Well Dale brought us some awesome years. So if he is the next Dale then i Welcome it. Can only be one Champion each year so enjoy the ride. The amount of great players and teams Dale brought us is something il never forget. Same goes for Les. Dale gave us 20 years so sit back and enjoy the Les ride.

Daddy Dale had Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Vernell Singlton, then Chris Jackson, etc. and never won a thing. Vandy won with fricking Will Perdue. And if people here think CLM is goofy, they never heard Daddy Dale speak at length about anything. He was borderline whacko.

Well, I think LSU won the SEC title the year before (tied with State I believe). LSU's team was loaded with talent, but they were young. Brown was better at coaching the teams with less expectations. In the tourney, they lost to Lethal Weapon 3 at Georgia Tech. That team had 3 NBA 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder on it. That included the ACC's leading scorer in Dennis Scott (you know how good the ACC was then), Kenny Anderson (the youngest player in the NBA when he entered it) and Mackey who became Tech's all-time leading rebounder. They were as stacked as us. They lost in the Final Four to the eventual champion, UNLV. They were the only team that challenged them (they had a nice lead on them at half). UNLV blew out Duke in the final.

Dale definitely talked about some off-the-wall stuff (Big Foot), but he was an engaging speaker.

FYI, Dale beat Vandy with Will Perdue 3 times in one year... Jose Vargas was the man that year.

This should be a compliment to both coaches. Dale Brown took a program from from the bottom and took it to the brink of seveval National Championships. It's too bad Macklin broke his finger. Miles has a NC.

While some will argue Les has a title, he took over a program in much better position than Dale did in their respective sports.

Les Miles' offense fails to develop players at one position consistently and otherwise that is it. I have to give him credit where credit is due.

Who holds the OOC reg season win streak?

No offense but this isn't as special as some of you like to believe given the quality of our regular season OOC opponents. We've played some tough teams at times, but they are few and far between.

Let's look at this tough road for Les:

2005 ASU + trash
2006 Arizona (trash) + trash
2007 Va Tech + trash
2008 All Trash
2009 UWash (coming off 0-12 season) + trash
2010 UNC/WVU (okay) + trash
2011 UO/WV + trash (but legit year of OOC
2012 UW (mediocre) + trash
2013 TCU (sucked that year) + trash
2014 UWisc (good) + rest are trash

So they've played 2 seasons only with multiple FBS OOC in season in his 10 seasons here. So please stop with his great OOC record when its padded by the likes of McNeese, ULL, and Troy state.

Loved what Dale did for LSU basketball but I have to disagree. Daddy Dale did have what many considered the best team in the land two years running back in 80 & 81 but he could not deliver a NC. When he had a team loaded with 4 future 1st round picks including the #1 overall, he didn't even win the SEC. He still is the best roundball coach in school history and second-winningest in the SEC but he fell short of the #1 goal. Les, in spite of his foibles, did deliver the goods in '07 and has sustained the FB excellence for LSU for a decade now. And it's a big if at this point, but if Les can squeeze out even an average passing game next season, with the rest of the pieces in place, LSU will be contending for titles once again.

Absolutely. Why is it that LSU fans settle for "satisfactory"? Is it something about the predictability and stability of having an "acceptable" program - not wanting to break eggs to make a omelet?

Queue the 10-Win Settlers....

He doesn't struggle to develop players and he has delivered at or above expectations over a ten year span. And, the future looks bright.

OP has a valid point. I've heard this comparison for years. Not sure why it meets such resistance on this board.

I think the only similarities are that they should be considered the best coaches LSU has had in their respective sport up to this point. Bertman is too, but bertman is one of the best coaches on any level anywhere.

Les Miles won a National championship, Dale brown did not. Big difference in my opinion.

So what do you suggest we do? Saban wasnt winning ten games a year, so according to you that would have not been satisfactory.

So let's just say Les is let go at the end of this season and we shell out millions to buy him and his staff out. If the next coach doesnt win the west in his first season, should we fire him? Or would us LSU fans just have to settle?

While i tend to agree that's about as good as you are going to get. Not many people other than ND play tough ooc schedules year in and year out. ID say his is probably pretty damn good compared to current coaches. Which is what we should be comparing it to.
