We will be fine: Durham Jackson Berry Johnson And Zavion can run in some packages. He looked good in the Hback role last

Did I read Jelani Jenkins could factor is well.

Yes. Should have let Emery back

Absolutely.. Even without Lindsey getting in trouble this would have been a smart move. It is the only position group on the team that lacks depth. It would make more sense to give that spot to Emery and drop one of the o lineman that are never going to play here.

LSU's RB group last year was

Williams
Durham
Jackson
Emery (lost for season after 1 game)

If Durham gets injured in any way, this goes from "fine" to "complete disaster"

Yep. And we were last in the SEC in rushing.

Watkins* is like 165 pounds soaking wet, unless its some trick or end around/reverse type play, hard to see him having any "carries"

First of all. I apologize to the board for even mentioning another SEC player as an LSU player. Thank you for correcting me.

However, if you’re 165 and you got “it” with pure speed and water bug moves, you can still factor in if there are injuries.

Not saying that Watkins is anything like T Holiday, but holiday was near 165 albeit shorter.

And he was not an every down back. But he proved deadly even behind the QB a time or two. (Averaged around 9 per rush junior year and 14 in frosh year )

Good news, we have lots of these.

Holliday was pretty well built for his size around 5'5 165-170 range, and outside of 1 year (2007 - 53 carries) he was effectively just used as a gadget player on offense with no more than 27 total carries over the course of an entire season

Huge difference in 5'5 165 and 5'10 165.

Yes they are both track stars, but 1 was built to play football (even if very short) while the other just looks like most other track athletes.

Thats easy these days $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ You can see that in action the next time the portal opens. We will pay millions to an established RB to come here.

Why would we pay a ton of money to have someone come in as a back up for a position where we have a proven guy AND the number 1 RB freshman can have an immediate impact?

It’s running back. 4th string. A freshman is fine there.

Which had little to nothing to do with RB depth. The top 3 guys were available all season. The only 1 who was lost was Emery. But he already had his 1 game brief moment where everyone thought he was going to be the 5 start Heisman RB they had been waiting for since 2019. So that loss wasn't significant.

I'm not saying that we were bad because we had no depth. I'm saying having no depth can make it worse. As you said, the top 3 guys were available and we were still really bad. Now imagine if we had lost one Durham or Williams. We could have very well been last in all of college football.

So lets say this year we improve and halfway through the year, Durham gets hurt and has to miss 3 games. That could break the season.

Exactly.

This isn’t like UGA, where you are required by law to have 6-7 arrests each year for Fall camp.

LSU desperately needed a back in the portal, we took 11 receivers instead. This is all on the coaching staff.

We are not running the wishbone. We’ll be fine.

Didn’t Texas grab one before the season last year a grad transfer?

bet we’ll use Zavion Thomas, Jelani Watkins and Johnson in a good bit of run packages.

Having to use WRs at RB is exactly why it was a gigantic fail to not add in the portal

This isn’t a good thing lol

How are people disagreeing with this? 1 injury and you only have 2 actual scholarship running backs. 1 of which is a true freshman and the other is coming off a very disappointing season.

Never said it was…..

Durham also had a foot problem last year. Hopefully, berry is all of the 5 star claimed to be. His competition was much smaller in hs compared to Durhams so who knows.

Not a pretty rb room with a much depleted Oline

Going into camp LSU had 4 RBs + a 5th guy in Johnson who clearly is going to get backfield touches (most likely as a "wildcat" QB). 5 guys at the position is not a depleted group. I don't think anyone could have anticipated one would be a bozo and harbor accused murderers at his dorm.

Hindsight is always 20/20

Even the much lauded 2019 team didn't have "deep" RB group (according to the standards of this board). It had CEH, TDP (true freshman), Emery (true Freshman), Curry, and Lanard (Williams was a walkon). 4 RBs is a pretty standard group. That's what LSU had until Lindsey was suspended. The still have it. Only it's Johnson who is now the 4th RB

It’s not just the number of guys, it’s the quality in addition to the number of guys. We have one proven, quality running back.
