The refs allowed the late hit on Lee and a couple of late hits on Jefferson including a couple of out of bounds late hits.

i was at the game and didnt realize the amount of hits that could have been flagged.. i feel like if it had been in death valley we would have gotten at least one

to me, the lates were borderline but the out of bounds hits were blatant.

I remember a couple of late hits out of bounds too. Haven't watched a replay, but they seemed obvious at the time.

Ford was two yards out of bounds on one sweep to the right and got hit by TWO Bama players late.
No call.....

This was obvious IMO

Miles was calling for it.

To be fair, the refs were letting both teams get away with a little more than normal. I thought the officiating was pretty down the middle.

i think i remember that...is that the play where he jumped over a bama player laying on the sideline, landed 3 yards out of bounds and then got hit?

The one on Lee should have been called IMO. If he had just run into him, that would have been one thing, but he CLEARLY shoved him after Lee had thrown.

Wasn't really that bad of a missed call, if at all IMO

Nine out of ten officiating crews would have thrown a flag for that.

I could tell that impacted Lee's confidence quite a bit. He wasn't the same after that.

I agree but there were some late hits by LSU too that were ignored. Overall I thought it was evenly called but I agree that ignoring that blatant roughing planted the seed of fear in LEE for the game.

Really? There was at least 2 yards between them after Lee released the ball and Lee's throwing arm was down and he had time to slightly brace before impact. Hightower did not try to pull up, nor was this a natural continuation of his motion. He had to lower his shoulder to hit Lee after Lee had released the ball.

Missed. Clearly

Only two words matter though

The one that sticks out for me is a play where a pass is overthrown to an LSU receiver near the sideline and the bama player takes a couple more steps after the ball sails by and lays out the defenseless receiver with a helmet to helmet hit. Forget the players names.

I turned to a friend after that happened and yelled it out and at first he said it never happened on that replay we were both like d*mn that's the third late hit that wasn't called. Oh well, Moffitt is a M'Fn beast.

There were a lot of late hits on LSU players, the hit by Hightower on Lee being the most blatant, IMO. But funny how Mathieu is being called the thug.

I noticed it when it happened because the defender took two strides before nailing Lee. That, the no-call on Reid during the block return,(he was hit three yards out of bounds) and the helmet to helmet against RS( The pass in the right flat that he got fingertips on) were all so obvious, not only live in the stadium but also on the replay when I watched it. And conspicuous by keeping mum all three times, good ol' Verne and Gary. Pretty sure LSU gets flagged for all three calls in BDS if the tables were reversed. Thankfully, other than possibly getting in Lee's head, it didn't effect the outcome.

Compared to what Laron Landry did to a couple of Bama QB's, I think the hit on Lee was rather mild...his weren't called either, and we celebrate those hits to this day. Now neither of these were particularly late, but he has a way of putting his head down into the QB, and on Croyle it looks like he put his arms and elbows out first.
