Man I really hope Clemson tries to defend Joey like they did Tua.

Joey processes so much more and faster than Tua it will be a blood bath.

Throw in that quick “ option” pitch could work a couple times as well. Especially if in man.

Tua doesn’t progress through reads like Burrow

Joe goes through 2 reads. Pre snap reads, and post snap reads. He is very good at finding disguised coverage. Venables won't stop this offense.

I believe that’s the key. Tua decided pre-snap where to go because of the blitz. Burrow can still make the read post-snap even with the blitz.

I think you'll see the opposite. Rather than running bunch sets to try and shake loose and confuse bracket coverage, I expect LSU will go empty and spread them out to try and force Clemson to declare its intention early.

Thought Fields made a bad read there and should have never thrown that ball. Should have seen Simmons and knew there was safety help and knew that wasn't an option.

I expect a lot of delayed blitzes and safety/corner blitzes

Then switching to "Eyes on the QB" (Zone) the instant the ball was snapped.

This defense isn't as good as last years unit, especially upfront.

The first interception they had of Fields last week was well designed.

Corner Blitz, Simmons looks to be playing the middle safety of a cover 3 (a common look for them) but really is playing cover 2 and his range allows him to work over and get the pick. They have lots of backfield movement for blitz, coverage, after the snap.

This play stands out to me too. Incredible play design utilizing a stud like Simmons and his speed. They burned that play though, Joe knows to look for some kind of variation of it.

Venables will need another 10 or so plays with this level of creativity, called at the right time, to confuse Burrow.

The problem is Fields generally throws the way he's looking. That's not Burrow.

Why would you say Tua faked an injury? That’s just stupid. Tua is a class act and a hell of a QB.

How to keep them from
Doing this.

Wide splits.

Sending men in motion.

Its hard to fake zone when the RB splits out wide

We do a good job presnap making these decisions.

Also Burrow does a great job post snap.

That's Simmons deal. Pre to post snap positioning to make it look like man coverage.

Burrow is all over this. Either way.

One of the keys is - you can't do the same hot route 2 times in a row. If they disguise coverage and then blitz to trigger the hot route, they can jump that for a pick.

But, our guys know this and there are hot routes for CEH, Moss and Jefferson on almost every pass called. Both Marshall AND Chase have come back on scramble drills after Joe had detached from the pocket on a blitz - several times.

The only advantage that Clemson has is that this back end unit is about as fast and athletic as any we've faced this year, although Florida and UGA are comparable. And we've already faced defenses as fundamentally sound and well-coached (aforementioned Florida and UGA, as well as Bama and Auburn) and made all of them look silly at times (except, maybe, Auburn).

If the go man they will get fricked early and often by Chase and Marshall.

If they try the hybrid Clyde and Moss finna eat a lot. In either set up Jefferson still has a pretty good day

An interesting subplot is LSU's ability to run their playbook with zero substitutions... Let's see clemson run this variety of defensive looks with no change in personnel.

Not knocking Clemson’s D at all but I feel very confident they won’t do anything more complicated than a Saban defense with 14 days to prepare
