I officiated HS football in three different states for 15 yrs, American football in England for 3years( pro rules) and service football (ACC trained) for the same three years. And I have NEVER worked with a fellow official who would ever make a call or decision because of alma mater. I have worked with bad officials but it was always they weren't knowledgeable enough or they were just plain lazy.

This is false. I know a couple personally and neither played SEC football.

Sir, people see things from their own perspective even if not intentionally. Watch a room full of fans argue two different sides of a replay in slow motion. Humans cannot help being biased in some way. It is why people in law have to recuse themselves when there is a conflict.

I know 2 SEC refs. None played football in the SEC. The rule that I have always heard was that no ref can call a game involving the school he was an alum of. I would be curious as to any research on what is the school of each SEC ref just to get a better sense re any alleged bias/es.

I prefer to be called Mr. King, Big Daddy or the Great one. Still most people call me Dave.

Really don't give a rats arse what they want to be called. The point is what do most people call them.

Is this guy really "Head of Replay"?

Would that be just forany particular game and it's ref crew or is this guy actually the head of all SEC replay officials.

Didn't I hear that there was a central SEC replay location that local game replay officials consult during games? I could be wrong about that.

Any former LSU players?

Nope. Our former players don't wear zebra suits on Saturdays. They wear jerseys on Sundays.

The name of the Douche that is the head of replay is Tom Riddle. He doesn't have a degree from Alabama (nor did he play for them), but apparently he has taken paid engagements to speak to Alabama boosters. And apparently he does have some bias against LSU.

You realize that link actually proves he doesn't have a bias toward Alabama, though, right? From the article and it seems unclear that any so called bias he has works against LSU
quote:

Hmm. Now that is unexpected. Ritter hammers LSU in every game EXCEPT the Alabama game. Even more interesting, the penalty margin isn't helping all that much. LSU is 6-1 in games Ritter officiated since 2012, and the one game the Tigers lost, they held the edge in penalties.

Also:

quote:

Wow, he doesn't like the Tide either. In fact, looking at the LSU and Bama game logs with Ritter, it seems we can identify the true villain behind the potential SEC officiating conspiracy... Texas A&M. The Aggies have only been in the league three years, and they've drawn Ritter four times against LSU or Bama, and every time they have gotten an extremely friendly whistle.

Dang Aggies!

Great article though, thanks for sharing.

I don't think there is a local replay official any more. All replays are handled from the central location, which is sort of a big TV room in the SEC office in Birmingham with live feeds of all the SEC games going on at any given time. So, yes, the head of replay would be in control of all games.

Either that's a new rule, or it's been broken several times in recent history.

Which part? and give us an example of when. FTR, Ritter is not an Alabama alumni.

Please don't tell me Ritter was responsible for that horrifying review call near the end of the game

David Smith is first class. He's fine. Don't worry about him.

Now Ritter is a different story. He's horrible. I wouldn't have him be a volleyball line judge.
