he is friends with O. O is friends with the 104.5 guys. kiff does a lot of interviews anyway.

he'll be a hot commodity if he gets FAU to double digit wins. i was listening to steven godfrey on his podcast and he said kiffin isn't going to leave for just any job though. he wants a big job this go around. unless something crazy happens i don't see any of the elite jobs opening (execpt ohio state and i doubt he would be in play there). if O gets 2019 and fails then kiffin still might be up for grabs.

Notre Dame could possibly open. But I don't know if Kiffin would even be considered for that spot. OSU probably wouldn't really want to go that route considering they would have had to fire their last two coaches for off-the-field reasons. I suppose USC could open up, but he obviously wouldn't be going there.

Pretty much everyone else appears to be set or has a first/second year coach they likely aren't going to fire. Particularly in the SEC. Auburn could have been a possibility, but they have firmly hitched themselves to the Gus Bus. Oregon can't be overly thrilled with the pedigree of their current HC, but he's only in year 1.

Kiffin isn't just appearing on a Baton Rouge radio station because he really likes BR. I doubt he's actively pulling for O to get fired. But he also knows FAU isn't his last stop and of all the "big" jobs out there, the LSU job is one that is probably more likely to become available than most others. His appearances are probably for "just in case" that job comes open.

LSU is probably an attractive spot for him. It has money and players. Lane's also not been one to shy away from taking digs at Saban. LSU would give him a chance to get under Saban's skin on a daily basis AND take him down on the field

Kiffin would make a great head coach ala Spurrier.

Was a good interview. Am I the only one that used to hate Kiffin at USC, Oakland, Bama and UT, but don't really mind him now that he's at FAU? I kinda want him back in the SEC now.

ND could def be interesting. but i don't see them going for him either. i think they'll believe they're above hiring him.

i think he wants back in the SEC too. that's where the juice is.

of course it all depends on who alleva's replacement is.

I don’t think he had ever had a losing record in college which involved coaching run the sec (giving Tennessee the only excitement in two decades)

Except for the 3 10-win seasons in the previous 6 years to kiffin. Yeah they must have been stoked for a 7-6 season 2 years removed from a 10 win season.

I think we miss out on Kiffin unless O loses big this year. No matter how good Kiffin is, every year that he remains at FAU is like rolling the dice.

If Kiffin ended up at LSU I bet Hugh Freeze would be his OC

I dont think O is as horrible as many on here think he is. Is he the next coming of Nick? no but I think he is on par with every other coach lsu has had not named nick or bill.

Yet he doesn't actually have to prove it by winning conference titles or championships. O has it made, he might actually get an extension if people think like this.

He's also left a burning pile of crap behind at every HC job he ever had. So theres that to consider too.

He only had one season at Tennessee and USC was being hammered by the NCAA when he got there.

He left burning piles of crap behind, but the argument could be made that he didn't necessarily start them.

Im not saying I wouldn't take him at LSU, especially with our current options in place and possibly keeping Aranda to run the D, but i'd keep my fingers crossed the whole time.

Same here. I already have my fingers crossed with Orgeron anyway.

Great interview but it struck me as odd. Why is he doing interviews with a Baton Rouge station during camp? Could it be that he is trying to clean his image up for the LSU fan base. Keep his name out there in case LSU opens up.

Giving up dirt on a Nick Saban lead Alabama is certainly a way to endear yourself to the LSU fanbase

the most big balls kiff move ever would be to step over the body of his best friend and take his job.

I think his stock improves every year he's at FAU (assuming he keeps rolling off good seasons and doesn't screw up off the field.) They were horrific before he got there and went 11-1. That's impressive by any measure. And he's the kind of play caller that attracts top QBs. He really would be a good fit at LSU if paired up with Aranda. Timing is everything.

You're leaving some history out... don't forget the Oakland Raiders. I know Al Davis could be a meddler, but don't you remember how disgusted he was with Kiffin?
Davis called him a con and a liar, said he couldn't get rid of him fast enough.
When you couple that in with what happened at Tenn and USC, the way things ended- there's a ton of baggage. USC being on probation already has nothing to do with him being fired on the tarmac.

Honestly, the way he keeps running his mouth in the media shitting on Saban (the guy who resurrected his career), I don't think he's changed.

Hell, Orgeron already tried to do the same to Kiffin at USC.

Those two are such the odd couple, Orgeron might suggest Kiffin be our first call on his way out the door.

Yep and I want him as LSU’s Head Coach! Guy can flat out run an Offense and QB play almost better than anyone. Keep Amanda as assistant head coach and DC, we would run shite in the SEC!

I didn't think it was necessary since it was his first HC job at 31 years old, the Raiders were already a dumpster fire to begin with, and it's not a college job.

And I still don't understand why being fired on the tarmac is treated as such a huge deal. It made for dramatic headlines, but between hiring a replacement with even more baggage and berating referees, Pat Haden never exhibited stellar decision-making.

And don't forget Saban dumped him the week before the championship game. He's not one to make emotional irrational decisions.

but hey, Joe Alleva is. So I guess there's a chance.

Any single event can be overlooked, but when you have a series of them, it then becomes a pattern.
