Both left schools poorly
It wasn't Lane's choice to leave Ole Miss poorly. He wanted to do right by them. It's just the system is setup poorly for him to have done it right.

I think it's 2 completely different hires. I was onboard with the Kelly hire especially after the 2022 season but behind the scenes it looks like he was coasting and had checked out. The hunger was gone and that led to an inconsistent team that could never get it all together. We are getting a coach in his 50's, just like when we got Saban, who is young and hungry for a Natty. He also has a great DC on staff who if he stays, will finally have a great offensive mind to help the cause. As far as his issues in the past most of that was from his drinking problem which is there no more. There are no absolute guarantees in hiring a coach but this is as close as we would get this year. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Most if not all the credit goes to Verge. Verge was the key player that maintained the proper relationships over the decades and effectively leveraged them at the right time in an appropriate manner

Verge called in his options at the perfect time. Options that he has been cultivating since he was a player.

That was the covid year. No cupcakes to feast on that year either.

True, but because all teams had reduced practice time, all of the defenses were crap. That's why Bama's offensive stats from that year don't impress me when Bama fans try to claim 2020 Bama was better than 2019 LSU.

That said, I think we will be vastly improved on offense. That's why we hired the guy.

I mean... In all honesty isnt there some concern that once again lsu is bringing in a high priced outsider and just assuming he will do well?

Nice troll attempt

No, the concern isn't there this time.

Kiffin knows the SEC, knows LSU from both OC at Bama and then coaching at Ole Miss. Knows the recruiting process for "down here".
LSU didn't "steal him" from Ole Miss, that job was always a PROVE IT spot. He wanted LSU in 2021, but some of the admin at the time hadn't felt he'd proven himself yet.
*His football knowledge was never in doubt, what he had to prove was that he was mature enough to not implode in a couple years, like Orgeron had. Kiffin was always considered the better coach over O, but with O cratering after 2019 the fear was Kiffin would too.

Kelly's hire was about a couple things- first, as a counter to losing Herman and being stuck with Orgeron last hire. Intent was to prove LSU was still relevant and could pull anyone nationally. Also they wanted someone with extensive experience running programs, to fix the mess Orgeron left. Orgeron wasn't an administrator.
Kelly did that and did ok record-wise, but didn't understand the recruiting down here. Had to bring Frank and Raymond back into the mix several years late, to restore pipelines.

Lane understands what LSU's talent base is, and what type of offenses and defenses will work here.

This is what excites me! We should have a sustainable offense for the first time in years.
