How about a 5 year contract and a $50 million bonus for a National Championship.

All I'm saying is you better hit on the coach if you decide to go the "great value" strategy. Otherwise this could set LSU back many years.

Sounds like coonass for "The smart move is a 5 year contract with massive incentives." Which makes perfect sense.

Yes but because it is the governor who is saying it people get pissed off. God forbid that we let an attorney who has actually read the contract tell us the details of the contract.

enough with the ridiculous incentives though, "we" saved $500k by firing BK , he was set to get that if we'd have won that game, $500k for making it to .500

Same here and in my case, why I will never return. The apologists want to tell themselves and everyone how “the state is making a come back” and is “trending up”.

Then you see how the ugly politics get involved with EVERYTHING and it is the same bucket of crabs that it has always been.

Every program already offers this more or less... It's just in the form of a raise and extension with money guaranteed and spread out for a number of years to be more school-friendly.

Which also means that a

5 year contract
would be one of the lesser offers among coaching contracts with the programs LSU wants to compete with.

frick it.

No contract length. No buyout.

$1 mil per P4 win
$.5 mil per non-P4 win
$3 mil bonus for playoff appearance
$2 mil for each playoff win
$5 mil bonus for natty

Bonuses stack. So you beat a P4 team in the playoffs you get $3 mil.

Why would any in-demand coach take this when they could make $10+ mil guaranteed for several+ years somewhere else regardless of their performance?

Those contracts also have incentives fwiw...

while wonderful, until all ADs do this it won't happen. Sure you may get lucky with it, but college football is so dependent on players that you are now risking money if your start QB gets hurt, you lose your stud CB, or have a rash of injuries that you played no part in. Coaches will take the guarantee not the risk.

More then just LSU has to do it.

In case the “frick it” didn’t make it obvious, it’s a joke. Calm down.

If LSU can begin the trend of hiring coaches on five year contracts that are heavily driven by incentives and performance based, the rest of the NCAA would be appreciative.

If that happens, schools like A&M and Texas, with way more money than everyone else, could start offering guaranteed contracts so they could have their pick of the litter, they certainly aren’t going to sweat a $50M buyout every few years.

I think the big names will have guaranteed contracts from now on. You gotta find an unproven who wouldn’t get $100M offers anyway.

Your joke is too close to what the Governer and a lot of dumbasses on this board think we need to offer because they don't live in reality and don't understand leverage, negotiation, or the head coaching market.

Pure incentive based is nonsense.

A 4 year contract with rolling 1-2 years
extensions if hard criteria is met would be ideal for both parties, but will never happen.

CFB has made their bed with the guaranteed contracts and the agents and top coaches aren’t going to go backwards.

$5 million base pay per season, then $1 million for every win over 6. Simple.

A 10-2 regular season equals $9 million. About right. If the playoffs are missed for whatever reason, your bowl win gets you to $10 million. Seems fair for a good season where you barely missed the playoffs.

If you get into the playoffs, it's an automatic $1 million extra. Your 10-2 season is worth $10 million before playing a playoff game. Then $1.5 million for every win in the playoffs, $2 million for an NC win. Winning an NC would pay $15 to 16.5 million, which is fair to both the program and coach.

A contract like that adds massive incentive to perform and never start slacking on the job, like these 10 year guaranteed contracts do. You are potentially leaving $10 million on the table per year.
