The Mayor of Kissimmee, Jackie Espinosa, was arrested by law enforcement Wednesday morning.
Only Channel 9 was there when Espinosa was pulled over as she drove away from her home shortly after 8 a.m.
She was asked to step out of the vehicle she was driving and was placed in handcuffs.
quote:
The Investigation: A special prosecutor previously discovered probable cause that Espinosa misappropriated public funds from the city’s "Business Boost 2.0" COVID-19 relief program. Three businesses tied to Espinosa and her family collectively received $50,000 from the program without proper conflict-of-interest disclosure
quote:
According to the investigation by Court-Appointed Special Prosecutor Mayanne Downs, Espinosa did not just fail to report a conflict; she actively helped create, fund, expand, and promote the federal COVID-19 relief "Business Boost 2.0" program while positioned to benefit from it. The $50,000 funneled to three businesses completely owned or operated by Espinosa, her husband, and her children accounted for nearly 20% of the entire first round of funding distributed by the city.
quote:
Taxpayer-Funded Travel: Thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds used by the mayor and her staff for travel—including trips to Puerto Rico—with highly questioned public utility.
She has cankles. I have never met a person with cankles who is innocent. Guilty AF

Those covid dollars flu out the door faster than the fed could print them. What a clusterfrick the pandemic response was from top to bottom.

I can never get over how blatantly stupid local politicians are. You don’t mess with the federal government’s money. That’s the one thing that they always come looking for (unless, of course, you are in the federal government and can force them to look away).

I love seeing this.
But then I remember this is just pennies in the grand scheme of government fraud and then I get pissed off.
And she likely only got "caught" because she pissed off the wrong person.

How the dumbfricks who mis-spent Covid or PPP funds thought they wouldn't get caught is mind-numbing.
I"m not talking about the ones who used fraud to get it. That can involve some trickery that may not get exposed.
I mean the ones who enriched family, bought lambos, etc.

There are a few in LC I have been waiting to see if they ever get caught.
I noticed an uptick in Porches around here during that time. Not really Lambos.

They do. But it’s ridiculous that it takes this long to arrest these people. These crimes seem very easy to identify, solve, arrest and convict.

I will never understand why people are so greedy as to throw their entire life away over an amount like $50k. So dumb. Not even life-changing money. That's a used Escalade. I'm not risking my freedom for less than 7 figures. Prob not even then.

The ones caught so far are just the tip of the iceberg.
Most will not face any consequences.
