There is no free lunch. We pay low income and prop taxes and real high sales taxes. TX pays no income and very high property tax

LA state income tax is a straight 4%. So that is in the neighborhood of $90k. Do you know what property tax is in TX? A bud of mine has a $500K home which by today's standard is above average but not really that high... property tax is $20K per year.

Psssst....many major coaches in TX get a house as part of the compensation package where the school pays the property tax

Sure there is. Let's look at 2016 budget numbers for example. The LSU women's basketball ball team averaged. 400 thousand dollars per season. That's absolutely terrible. The Tennessee Vols averaged 5.6 million. With the right atmosphere LSU certainly can do better. Winning takes care of a lot of problems.

Now do expenses from both seasons.

OK for the 2016 season women's basketball in Tennessee cleared about 2 million dollars according to the report to the NCAA

Maybe that's why she's leaving? I can't think of another reason why she would leave an elite program that she built from the ground up to come to LSU. Surely LSU isn't going to pay her what she was making there.

Oklahoma has long been rumored to want out of the Big12 which puts the future of the conference in doubt. Baylor’s future will hinge on whether or not UT wants to remain married to the remaining members, go independent, or search for a suitor in PAC12 or Big10. Ann Richards kept Baylor relevant when the SWC dissolved and she’s long gone. Yes, Baylor has a much better program right now, but in terms of future viability, Kim just might want to make a move to the SEC. New TV contract $$ from ESPN and much better exposure.

Yep. The tax "experts" here are spouting 2nd hand nonsense. I have lived in TX and LA and now in TN. Moving to TN from LA we save more than $10K/year on taxes alone. The sales tax is about the same in both places - 9-10%.

Not to mention other expenses. Homeowner's insurance in Waco probably doesn't require a damn hurricane rider/fee. My house insurance in TN is 1/3 what it was in LA and that's for a house that is assessed at 50% more. Oh and car insurance is less than half what it was in LA for the same coverage. People in LA just don't want to do the math because it makes no numerical sense to live there.

Do you have a link for that? I can’t find 2016 but according to the Nashville newspaper in 2017:

Both sports were profitable while women’s basketball operated at a $2.4 million deficit.

Property tax is roughly 2%, on a 500k house you pay $10k.
