This is a life and business lesson. No need in not giving your 6-4 DB who was promised #5 and who is currently on the team to placate a guy who can't win ball games for you anymore. Kiffin is the anti-Brian Kelly and he better be!

BK promised the kid 5.

BK also may have said something inconsistent to DJ.

We all know LSU does not retire numbers. LSU retires jerseys. There is no reason to believe that 5 was on the shelf forever and it should not be. 9 should not be on the shelf forever or at least u til a different decision was made which should be after Joe Burrow is 50.

I’m all for giving these kids whatever number they want. If they want 5 or 9 give them the number. They aren’t retired.

Just give them whatever number they want it's just a fricking number who cares Jesus Christ you can actually have more than one of the same number on the same team at the same time so it's dumb to sit there and think that you deserve your number retired because you did this or that. All numbers should be available all the time it's fricking dumb and petty and arrogant.

And under current policy, we can have multiple players recognized in our stadium ring of honor with the same jersey number.

Bert Jones will be the first #7. There will be others honored with the same number.

A portion of the LSU policy reads
quote:

To have a jersey retired at LSU, an athlete must have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five years prior to nomination.

They were really on top of counting Bert’s years of completed intercollegiate competition weren’t they?

It wasn’t anyone currently at LSU that promised JD. It was Woodward, O or Kelly. The guy that allegedly told JD that had zero say in anything and isn’t even at LSU anymore.

What a clusterfrick this whole Brian Kelly LSU thing was.

The jersey bylaws were right there. And they have been there.

Kinda lost in this is the DJ “wore this jersey his whole life” like bruh put on 3 and ball if jerseys don’t mean shite. Wait I thought jerseys don’t mean shite? I’m confused lol

They don't. The fact DJ's negotiation included a jersey # is pretty ridiculous thing to mandate when deciding where you play college football to potentially set you up for life.

Young people's priorities are not in the right place. It might be a byproduct of adults giving these young people everything they want and always saying yes to them.
