Plus with the way we've been getting killed by Bama and now even A&M on the recruiting trail, I think finding good recruiters is the most important element of improving this staff

You can have the most well coached and technique sound 6'0 270 lb guard in the world. He's still going to get his shite pushed in when the plays against some of the monsters on SEC defensive lines.

You gotta start bringing in the 6'7" 340 guys that can run 4.7s first. And then worry about coaching them up

I'm all for Kevin getting hired. Besides the fact that I think he'd make a good coach with his knowledge of the position, he bleeds purple and gold. He's also a great guy. We always talk about wanting good character recruits and I think thats the same for coaches. Can't put enough value on a guy that is a true Tiger and its not just a job to him. Really cares about the state and the university and the program.

Yeah, except it really does. Getting beast O-line prospects isn't our problem (outside C-rob). Teaching them proper technique is our problem. Our pass protection has been sub-par at its best the last two years.

Kevin Mawae is probably not the best hire available...

But IMO it's a pretty dang good one.

1. He was a stud at LSU and had an amazing NFL Career that will lead him to Canton.

2. Anything is better than Stud has been.

He is arguably one the best to play the position at the highest level, does that mean he can coach the position....no. Does it mean that an o-line recruit could be swayed by KM experience....yes.

Do you think Johnny Jones would get a recruiting advantage if he hired Shaq to coach the centers?

I think technical coaching and development is more important at this time. great offensive line coaching consistently turns 3 star guys into all-conference players and NFL draft picks. look at Wisconsin and iowa and how many OLine they put in the league.

I meant his recruiting skills. The staff can make up for that. I'm sure he can look at what a kid is doing and teach him to do it properly. I could be wrong I guess.

Improved. But still not where it needs to be. You saw how Mett got hung out to dry a NUMBER of times this year.

Guys, he's not calling offensive plays. He's showing them how to do things like run and pass block. He's also showing them how to digest information (especially the center) so the right play call can be made based upon LSU's blocking schemes.

Sounds good

Based on what?

just an assumption I'm making. A guy who spent most of his career away from his family and is now financially set may not really have that big of a desire to do what it takes to recruit full time.

How do you figure this??? We allowed 25 sacks in 13 games this year...that isn't even 2 a game...and they were protecting what was basically a statue in the pocket who had zero running ability.

That line must have done something right to allow the QB to throw for over 3000 yards.

This is the thing that is worrisome.

ETA: Of course, maybe he got sick of being home with those mofos and is ready to hit the road.

He knows the OL line and he is a leader - selected by his peers to be player representative for the NFL Players Union -- her peers think enough about him to lead -- this guy would be a home run. If he has the make up to lead a large organization such as the NFL players union guarantee he understands how to coach, teach, communicate, align and fire up a group of individuals.

You guys forget that he will have to go on the road into these kids homes, something he has never done before. Yeah he can talk about his accomplishes in the nfl, but kids arent going to know who he is. Really he has no coaching experience and no recruiting experience.

why do people think he will not be a good coach? You do not last as long as he did in the NFL with shitty technique and he is a smart dude I am sure he picked up a trick or two. Also he was president of the players union and stood up to the NFL so he is very well respected. yes I think he can coach and yes I think it would be a great hire.
