I know brah. It's a leverage move but I think it's an a-hole thing to get the fans hopes up

"This is turning out to be a tough decision, but as of now my heart is still with LSU," Gausman said. "There are still things for me to accomplish as a Tiger. I still want to play in and win the College World Series, and with a lot of guys coming back next year I believe we can do it."
quote:
"I also believe I'll only continue to improve and become a more complete pitcher working with (LSU pitching coach Alan Dunn) Gausman said. "I have no problem at all going back to LSU. We'll see what happens."

I doubt he has anything to do with the report actually getting into the paper. I'm sure his agent is leaking info to people, who then leaked the info to the press.
The guy that is reporting this story is an LSU student and Times Pic intern for the summer. I think they are being a little disingenuous here, probably reporting from an ill-informed source, and if it comes out that Gausman does sign, they don't have to bear too much of the blame. They can pass it down the chain.
Maybe I'm just distrustful of the Times Pic with its new management, which is already putting some strange journalistic practices into place and bending ethical standards. But I can't see this being true. The first pitcher taken in the draft will sign, and Baltimore will pay him whatever it takes. Gausman will not get more money than he would this year. Period.
ETA: Just saw quotes. Can't shite on Times Pic anymore. If Gausman is posturing, this is a dick move.

He doesn't have an agent

Well, shite. I hope he comes back. I think he'd be dumb to do so, though. And if he's using this to gain leverage, that's shitty. Kid's always been a good Tiger, but that'd be a bad way to leave.

He doesn't have an "agent" but Scott Boras is his advisor. NCAA loop hole

Right. If he had an agent, this would be meaningless because he would be ineligible
