Yes he's going to be a corners or safeties coach.

If Cooks is taking Raymond’s place then LSU just downgraded massively.

This myth that Raymond is some ungodly technician and coach is absurd.

He’s an elite recruiter. That’s it. We just hired Frank Wilson we’ll be ok.

And Cooks is supposed to be a good recruiter too.

All his top recruits aren't even out of texas. You are just making shite up.

Oklahoma won the league all four years he was there.

You are really trying to hard.

And you're on every thread MELTING because a guy whose numbers the last two years are even worse than Cooks' were at Oklahoma took off to lose in Gainesville.

Talk about trying too hard.

Brian Kelly thinks this guy is a good coach. Brian Kelly has a better resume than you do. Nobody is paying you a fricking dime to hire assistant football coaches at LSU, which means maybe you ought to ratchet it the frick down.

Oh i forgot raymond built and called the defense.

Yet you’re applying that logic to the new hire. He’s responsible for Oklahoma sucking on defense but Raymond gets a pass

Raymond is one of the better man-coverage coaches in CFB and a top-15 recruiter, nationally

Our struggles the past 2 years were terrible scheme (2020) and a basic zone scheme (first half of 2021). When we went to pressure-man, our D improved greatly. That's not on Raymond and not what he's paid to do. That's on the idiot Orgeron. The question you have to ask is if you ever supported and promoted Orgeron b/c that's on you, not Raymond.

When was the last time Cooks coached an elite secondary?

When was the last time Cooks was top 15 nationally in recruiting?

Seems like most of that blame would be on the HC or DC, right? People don't usually point fingers at the asst. bc they're probably getting told what to do.

How bad has LSU's secondary looked over the last two years? Why did Aranda have to hire a safeties' coach? How do you like what are two most highly recruited DB's did to the team by quitting? Good riddance.

The bigger issue with Cooks is if you lose Raymond, you need an elite recruiter as his replacement. Cooks hasn't shown to be that at all.

You miss the news that we hired Frank Wilson? He taught Corey Raymond how to recruit.

The thing to research is OU's pass efficiency defense during those four years and where that ranks.

I agree. These yards per game people watch too much ESPN.

2015 108.5 (9th) LSU ranked 51st
2016: 129.9 (66th) LSU ranked 14th
2017: 135.9 (85th) LSU ranked 9th
2018: 151.9 (112th) LSU ranked 4th

Can we now all agree Darante needs to coach DBs? Kerry Cooks can learn to make gumbo.

No I'm not applying that logic. I don't think a cornerbacks coach should get the full brunt either way.

I do know the guy isn't anywhere close to the recruiter raymond is. I also know he got fired from multiple places and has been an analyst the last 2 years.

How do you know this? Man-coverage, especially in college, is more about who the better athlete is and we know he recruited very well. Sure you teach hips, tracking the receivers eyes, and physicality at the line, but that stuff is a lot more important in the pros where everyone is a freak athlete. In college, being the better athlete is more important than anything else.

I'm not saying he was bad, I'm just saying I don't think anyone on this board outside of a few former coaches can really judge if he's a great technician coach.

I am sad we lost him, but we will be fine. DBU was around before him, Louisiana produces tons of studs at the position, and I think Kelly has made great hires so far so I'm trusting him. Frank Wilson also lessens the blow a whole fricking lot.
