Sorry but starting Brennan puts us in position of breaking in starter for year two
Kelly is 61 and isn’t going to waste a year for one QB
Whoever starts this year should be able to hit the ground running the offense next year
This year is going to be a toss up and expectation low
Next year is year Kelly is pointing to

I don't think so. This is year 6 for him.

So, to support your conclusion that Kelly isn't going to burn a year on a QB (presumably because he's 61 years old), you state that he will in fact burn year 1 on a QB by not playing the best QB?

I disagree. I think he will play the guy who he thinks is the best QB. That may or may not be Brennan.

I kmow We all love experience but there are a lot of good first year starters out there.

If Nuss is ready and plus we’ll great, but I dont Love playing for next year.

Play to win.

One RS, one medical RS, one Covid year. Should be eligible for next year right? Unless he didn’t get a medical for last year yet

Brennan probably is best QB now but you have to have a 2-3 year objective
Breaking in new starter next year is not good when you look at overall team that returns

Kelly is going to start the quarterback that he feels is the best for this team in 2022.

In theory he could apply for a medical redshirt and, if approved, have another year. I don’t know whether this has been tested yet with the COVID year.

Regardless it’s probably not that likely. It seems like most players hitting their 7th year have either chosen to enter the draft or hang up the cleats.

If he has a bad year or doesn’t end the season as the starter, he probably moves on. If he has a good year he probably tests the NFL waters. The only way I see him coming back is if he has a good enough year to keep the starting spot locked up, but not quite good enough to get drafted or picked up as UDFA. Seems like a small window but who knows?

As to the OP - Kelly’s going to start whichever QB he thinks is best this year. I could see him going with the younger guy if it’s a dead-even competition, just because the younger player should improve more throughout the season. But he’s not going to leave the best guy (based on his eval) on the bench at the end of August.

everyone is overthinking it. Kelly will play the QB that gives us the best chance to win now.

It's really that simple.

The Covid year didn’t apply towards eligibility at all. So he could absolutely apply for a med RS for last season.

Kelly is under year one of a contract for almost 100 million.
He knows he is expected to win NOW and is highly motivated to do so.
He knows recruiting, coaching, fan support all require him to produce right out of chute.
He will play whoever gives him a chance to win now.

I expect a below average season. But I don’t think you have to have a 2-3 year outlook. Furthermore, there’s no need to made that decision heading into the year.

You can make a decision around game 7 or 8 if needed to play a young guy for experience. And that’s only if things are going very bad.
