We're 12-12 with now 5 losses by 4 or less points. Does it come down to coaching? Do we just not have enough talent, or is it something more? Missing two wide open looks at the basket is a brutal way to end a game, but these issues didn't just start this week.

Need more players. Dean gives it all but is not SEC caliber.

You watched the game.

Were the players put in a position to win?

It’s a mix of everything I think. Coaching has to do whatever it can to prevent the deficits and the players have to make plays when the opportunity arises.

Feel bad for the players, really hoping they can get a positive result in one of these close games soon

Trent Johnson put his players in position to win.
Nikki Fargas put her players in position to win.

Neither of them recruited well. Recruiting is the #1 most important factor in college basketball.

In the SEC, you have to win games when the chance is there. Vandy pulled one out tonight, and LSU couldn't.

But the reality is 12-12 is the record of a bad team. Bad teams lose games even when they have a chance to win.

Don’t tell Dale Brown’s detractors that.

But I agree, he needs to recruit better.

LSU is. It a bad team. They have one close games. Kansas Stcwas one. They have close losses to good teams. Dayton for instance. Games they could have won. We just don’t have that guy yet. A Cam Thomas or Tremont WTers or Days or even a Mark Sears type player that you can trust at the end of the game. . Once he gets a player like that we might win some of these games. Cook can’t turn that ball over and Wright can’t miss that shot.

Playing hard is one thing. Actually being able to execute in the clutch is quite another. And, yet again, this team gets some momentum…and promptly pisses all over themselves.

Tie game. Florida turnover….Ward tries to go on a 1-on-4 fast break…with a predictable missed, impossible, shot at the rim. Cook then turns the ball over on the next possession. Florida continues to give LSU chances to win/tie. So LSU puts the ball in Wright’s hands…who runs some kind off offensive set where no one seems to know what he’s doing leading to a rushed feeble shot at the rim.

But hey, maybe the selection committee will give more credit this year for “never quitting”

I agree w the poster that said we just don't have THAT GUY yet ala Cam Thomas etc. It's frustrating to watch a team fight so damn hard and come up short. I hope they go on a run and lock up an NIT bid at worst. I don't see this team going to the tourney unless we beat every team left on the schedule and SECT by 10. One of those frustrating seasons where you can see the desire to be great is there, just don't have the horses to sustain it.

Technically, if they beat every team remaining on the schedule and the SEC tournament by 1 point, they’re in. No, I don’t believe that will happen but it would be fun.

Technically they can just win the SECT by 1 point.

I am actually pretty impressed that the players stay involved down 20 and make a run.

Don't forget Ward stealing the ball and then going one on three and throwing up a wild shot that had no chance. If he slows it down and let's us run clock and get a good look at the basket that could have won it right there.
