Hell these guys will have him on food stamps before the season is over.
Maybe we can get a Go Fund Me to pay his expenses back home.

I'd imagine for the first years of his career he'll be in an apt/townhouse near the practice facility? that's more than enough to live a very comfortable life with a kid and woman.
That's assuming he makes the team as a 6th rounder with UDFA measurables.

Yea, for a normal person. Not enough for a guy that’s going to be trying to live up to a NFL lifestyle. It’s just enough money to get him in a whole lot of debt.

Wont have to dig far. Most people know that’s not guaranteed

Only the signing bonus is guaranteed.
The $750K rookie salary is paid out during game weeks, I believe and is taxed at an incredible rate and has agent fees taken.
THere is no telling how much of his bonus went to his agent. Most of the time, agents pay for training expenses and all sorts of other things and recoup it from the signing bonus.
He may not get any of that money.

after a likely 35-37% federal tax withholding, plus whatever Mass (assuming he will be taxed there) state and local taxes and agent fee (guessing 5-6%?) he will likely net $100k, which is the only thing he will be guaranteed to make. Good money for normal people, but a pittance for the NFL "lifestyle." He better get motivated fast and earn his way onto the team and his contract. Glory days and stars don't pay bills.

Best place he could’ve landed. Hope he buys into the patriot way

NFL caps it at 3% of contract. Agents make the real money on endorsement deals that aren't capped.

With what he's gonna be making, he's gonna have to tell them to take out extra fixed amounts or pay quarterly estimates. Hopefully he's got someone advising him on that so he doesn't get behind the 8 ball in that respect.
To me that is definitely a "carrot" contract. That organization believes he is more valuable and/or has more potential than where they got him (which I believe to be the case), and that this make good gesture on their part will motivate him to do what it takes to succeed. I feel like the severity of his injury is worse than it appears to the average fan, and just hope he will have the right folks around him helping him make decisions and resources to maximize whatever he still has physically.

Very good for a 6th round pick

That would have also given him a year to further recover and get back in shape. If he was willing to work for it, that would have been his better option.
A lot of these players are just plain stupid

I know he had a bad back half at LSU with disappointing measurables, but we've seen the tape.
A motivated Kayshon Boutte is dangerous.
But we've also seen the tape from last season where it looks like he's scared to get hit.

He’s lucky to get that with the amount of effort he displayed, hopefully he turns it around and has a long career

quote:sure, but rookie contacts are slotted. The numbers are pre-set. He's making slightly more than the league minimum.
Very good for a 6th round pick
But he's got to make the 53-man roster, and stay on it each week, to get his paycheck (other than the signing bonus). NFL pays per game, so if he's on the active roster for a game, he gets the annual salary divided by 17. If he's sent down to the practice squad, the salary is far different.
It's all about making the roster and staying on it.

It’s a great opportunity. He’ll have to put in the work to see all of that 4M.
All of that? The US Treasury and the Commonwealth of Massachussets are going to take $1.7 million of it for starters.
