Who tackled Kaleb in this clip?

I’m not sure anyone did.

Weeks hung on after getting hit but Jackson was pushed out of bounds.

Physics will tell you that an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Mass and velocity come into play.

When Weeks breaks down, he takes on a formidable object in motion (mass and velocity). He did a good job, it’s kind of a no-win situation for him.

I hope Baker teaches this defense to gang tackle, unlike last year.

Anyone have the clip of the counter play Jake was talking about this morning?

Gang tacking or not, fundamentals of tackling needs dramatic improvements from last year.

Weeks is a fundamentally sound player but that was not a fundamentally sound play and often leads to extra yards and missed tackles. Weeks never should have "broke down". You take the inside hip, not allowing Jackson the ability to get inside, turn upfield or square up. You don't let Jackson get 3+ yards up field while you're breaking down and losing leverage.

At this moment, there is no reason to miss this tackle or get trucked UNLESS you break down.

Wait are we seriously taking a highlight of Jackson and shitting on it because Weeks broke down to avoid getting juked (you know Jackson is capable of this) and instead absorbed a big hit, hung on, slowed him down, and allowed a teammate to finish the play?

Was this a Weeks highlight? No. Is weeks stonewalling Jackson after that man has a full head of steam? No way.

Christ we are a miserable fanbase

Nobody is shitting on anybody. It's a simple response to the statement that it was a good job or there was nothing else he could do. He made the tackle which is job 1 but the fundamentals of the tackle is more of a reason why he got juked than just being outsized and weighed.

Stonewalling? WTF are you talking about? There's ways you teach to make this tackle and reasons for it. This clip is one of those reasons.

It's got nothing to do with being miserable and it's the same thing they'll say in the film room...after of course the other LBs laugh at him a bit for it.

It's no fun to have to break down to take on a guy that is running at full speed.

Full speed it doesn't look like Weeks breaks down. Jackson has a step on him as Jackson catches the ball in stride and Weeks is coming out of his coverage break. Tracks Jackson to the sideline and squares up when Jackson does. Looks worse than it is because Weeks has his feet caught up.

And honestly, I think this is a great rep for practice as you learn pretty quickly that non-contact training is over.

Noted. And fun to watch a good, clean football play by each side.

Weeks did enough, that's all that can be said for him

Met him head on, sure he got trucked but he held enough for support to come in and finish up

If that was Burns he would've gotten up and taunted like it was a 5 yard loss

Love seeing Kaleb catch the ball cleanly and turn up field.

Has to be able to do that to stay on the field on 3rd downs.

His blocking has already picked up.

I don't know man, I see it a little differently. You're right about the feet though...him getting his feet from underneath him kind of forces him to break down and lets Kaleb become the aggressor. Good teaching moment for sure

The first two images, Weeks looks like he's in good position. Then with the left foot on the next step, he looks like he gets too outside, loses leverage, has to get back inside forcing him to break down.

Kaleb looks like he notices it too and then delivers the blow.

I have to disagree with you.

When you face an elusive back in the defensive backfield who has downfield momentum, the only thing you can do is break down on him and make a good heads up tackle. If the tackler gets too aggressive, he’s going to get juked out of his shoes. Weeks did the right thing, he broke down and did the best he could to make solid contact and follow through. Jackson is all muscle with a lower center gravity than Weeks.

Weeks lost that battle, he will win far more than he loses I’m sure.

Just glad les miles is not in charge now. He would have wasted this talent by running him up the middle thirty times against bama.

Your Inside LB getting trucked by a halfback is not good. He's not a 5'10" corner or a 180 lb free safety or a punter. That's your ILB who has a scholarship to fill the gap and stop the run

Some of you need to realize that this was practice.
What do you think Weeks woudl have done in a real game? Try to tackle a beast like that in the open field around the waist, or dive through his legs?

Do you want Whit Weeks shredding our RB's ACL's to make a practice tackle?
Kaleb could have hit him harder, and Weeks could have taken his knees out if it were a real game. Instead what you got was Weeks in a shitty situation trying to man up when he's outmanned, and Kaleb getting through the contact without trying to do too much damage to his teammate.
