Just to clear up the NIL figures for basketball

Just wanted to post a couple of things since I keep seeing people are saying that basketball teams in the SEC are paying up to $20M for their rosters which would be close to the same amount that Ohio State paid it's entire football team. Think about that for a minute. Obviously that's not correct.
I know we don't have exact figures for any of these things, but wanted to post a couple of pieces of information so people can stop throwing insane numbers around like LSU basketball is getting out spent 100 fold.
First you have an on3 article about NIL collectives. Here's an excerpt related to Arkansas basketball NIL.
Now here's a Jeff Goodman tweet about the struggles of some of the high NIL teams this season.
Ok so Arkansas is one of the highest spending NIL basketball schools with a budget between $5-8M, so yes, LSU is getting outspent. But can we please stop throwing out insane numbers like "[insert SEC team] is paying $20 million in NIL!"
LSU needs to close the gap, and the gap is big, but not nearly as big as some of the shite posted here.

Multiple sources have told On3 Calipari is working with an “open checkbook” and will have “at least” $5 million annually in NIL funds to disperse. That number could grow to $8 million, sources have told On3.

Yep youre correct.
Top Tier Basketball players are in the 500K-800K range and coming down from that accordingly. Budgets for the blue bloods and big bank schools are typically around 5-9 mil

Id rather allocate momey towards a team whos players don't all leave after one year. Its not practical.

Bringing facts to the table won't change anything. This gave the few McMahon retards we have left the ammo they need to make up another excuse.
"McMahon can't win because he doesn't have NIL money. Everybody else is getting 20 million dollars," is being thrown around like crazy from them. Nevermind you that those same people were praising the hell out of McMahon just a few months ago for the recruiting job he did.
Facts, logic, reasoning isn't going to stop their agenda.

Hate to tell you, but the days of keeping players in any sport longer than a year are over if the money isn’t competitive. They all have agents who shop them annually to gauge interest and subsequently, drive up the price to keep them.

Yes. The top schools are spending between $5m and $9m. LSU is likely in the $1m -$1.5m range, agree? Maybe at the bottom of that range.

Yes. LSU definitely has one of the smaller basketball NIL budgets.
The main point of the topic was to, hopefully, get people to realize that the $10-20M number that I've seen posted at least 8-10 times in various threads over the last 24 hours when talking about other schools is incredibly inflated.
If Arkansas is considered to have one of the biggest NIL budgets in the country, and it's somewhere between $5-8M, my guess, and this is purely speculative, that the league average is probably around $3M-ish.
As I said in the OP, LSU is getting outspent, but it's not like it's by such a wide margin that they'll never be able to be competitive on that front.

None of this information is gonna stop the mouth breathers from parroting how far behind LSU is in NIL. These people are too stupid to take seriously

How about we just look at recruiting where McMahon has had two top 5 SEC classes in 3 years. He just needs his guys!

I am glad we aren't arkansas, kstate or IU and spending that much to not make the tourney

All these douchebags saying they don’t have the players are the same ones who say how good of a class McMahon is bringing in every year

Doesn’t matter how much money you have, if the players can’t develop and gel they won’t win consistently.
I think LSUs problem is they have no identity and look terrible in the half court. I’d like to see them work quickly and efficiently. Throwing up a 3 with no one under the basket is not efficient.
Basketball IQ on the court and teaching it off the court is lacking.

I just want to win. And seeing so many teams in the conference competing makes me feel like the university doesn't give a frick.

Yes. The $20m numbers are exaggerated. But having a $1-$1.5m budget when the league average is $3m and the big programs are spending $5m plus is a big disadvantage.
Luckily Calipari is coaching one of the big spenders. But that won't stop him from sucking in talent that we could use.

How big is the disadvantage really though? The recruiting rankings don't suggest we are at a disadvantage at all.
This biggest disadvantage LSU has versus the rest of the SEC is not NIL, it's not recruiting, it's not talent, it's coaching.

Ark has Walmart Jerry J, we don't

LSU is 2-1 against the three biggest spenders (and they would probably beat IU)
And somehow, people are using this to say NIL budget is our problem. I hope it helps but again... I'll need to see LSU called on selection sunday to believe it.

great thread and context for the overall NIL discussion w/MBB.

Correct. Not really sure that matters as I don't think anyone expects LSU to spend NIL money on basketball at the same clip as Arkansas.
