How in the hell can this be true? I understand it’s profitable for other schools but for LSU?
TV contracts for MBB.

SEC and NCAA TV contracts are shared with the participating schools.

They lose money on all sports except for football, MBB, and kinda baseball. However, Title IX requires an equal amount of mens and womens sports and I think you have to fund them equally. So, it's not like u can just retire their programs.

I don’t think you have to fund them equally. I would guess football spends more than all the other sports combined.

Then you would cut the audience by over half.

What people do not understand is how the Ath Dept works.

There are no owners, no shareholders; thus no incentives to turn a profit. They spend the revenue they take in exchange year.
Last fiscal year revenues increased 10% (20 million dollars), and they spent all of the 20 million.

All of the sports lobby the AD for funds. He approved the expenses as he sees fit. I believe WBB spends the second highest amount behind football because Woody wants it that way. MBB is next and then baseball. Someone can check me on that, but ftom the numbers posted here I believe that’s correct.

The main thing id don’t look at each sport as a profit center. There is no mandate to turn a profit. The mandate is to compete and win championships.

Let's bet:
WBB vs MBB
Who goes to Elite 8 first?
Who goes to Final 4 first?
Who wins ANOTHER Natty first?

Yeah BITCH. That's what I thought. Now go STTDB

Let's bet about the number of people that care.

I bet that we could overspend by 8 and a half million dollars in badminton and win at that too

But the morons on this board think it has to do with NIL. And if you just take the money lost from women's bball you can put it towards another sport and it's a magic fix. This was the case BEFORE NIL. Just about every sport at LSU (and every other university) loses money. It has absolutely nothing to do with NIL.

If you don't want women's bball to lose money, then you have to kill the program. If you kill the program, then you have to kill a men's program by the same number of scholarships that women's bball gives.

The National Championship was cool and all.....but priorities

Women’s Hoops and Baseball are two of the few sports that are actually growing audience, both in person and on TV, and could be either break even or small money makers in the future. Beyond the money, their growth in TV viewership only helps to bolster the status of the overall athletic program.

Put another way, that $8 mil loss is better than taking that $8 mil and spending it on advertising. Success matters. It has a positive overall effect on the perception of LSU.

As for taking the money to spend on men’s basketball- frick that small-time, small-minded, Joe Dean era fricking bullshite. We are in the SEC and have the TV contract and revenue to support all sports. Spend what’s necessary to have success across the board. We are already ranked in most all other spring sports, and highly in 4 of them. Just fix men’s hoops and be successful in ALL OF THEM.

fricking cheap arse bastards.

Women’s basketball at LSU doesn’t lose money. I know, I’ve seen what the University puts out.

Statement of Net Assets looks like Voodoo math. Look at Accounts Receivable and Deferred Revenue. Is this a joke?

Based on the financial docs provided on in the OP, Football was the only sport to make money. Baseball and MBB also lost money.

There isn't any breakdown of what part of TV money MBB or WBB provides. But being our women are in the E8 every year, while our men are transferring to another school, it would be interesting to see.

And it doesn't really matter. Per Title 9 we have to have a certain number of womens sports whether we like it or not. Why not have good ones? I have two girls and WBB season tix. They love it. And I enjoy it too. Its way more fun than watching MBB shite the bed all the time.

I laugh every time someone tries to convince people that women’s basketball is more fundamentally sound than men’s. It’s truly laughable.
