I could be wrong here, but I don't think Jay wants to be in the MLB like Vitello. Sure there's more money and less roster management, but I think Jay likes the roster management part of it. Listen to his PC last night and the way he talks about Braun. It sounds like he enjoys finding these guys and developing them. He wouldn't get to do that in the MLB to the same extent

Which would be more impressive? Skip building the program from scratch and winning 6 when college baseball was an afterthought,or JJ taking over a top program and winning 6 in a stacked SEC?

LSU won the SEC in 1975.

I have a friend that was on that team.

Otherwise…the 70’s were bad.

A tip of the cap to USC, but they won't the bulk of their titles when hardly any SEC team cared about baseball. LSU definitely has the #1 college baseball program right now, and it's been that way for awhile.

Also, Jay Johnson said just last year that he would rather be the head coach for LSU than be the manager of the New York Yankees. As long as Jay is happy at LSU then the future is bright.

OR the Dodgers. He's said that numerous times. Doubt seriously he cares that much about money but compare his salary/cost of living in B.R. vs a salary/cost of living in any MLB city, let alone N.Y or L.A. Too, like Saban at Bama, he has 100% control of his program. No billionaire owner who cares only about $$$$ to bother him.

USC has $70K tuition. It hasn't been a level playing field for decades.

Jays dad himself said that, from the age of 5, all Jay talked about was wanting to be a college baseball coach. I don’t think he has ever had professional manager aspirations
