Is the email being sent only to alumni? I am not an alumnus but I am on LSU’s email list for other reasons. I would like to send a similar response.

He posted the email address, just send it to that.

I agree that potential donors should hang on to their money until LSU demonstrates a better record of caring for it.

But just so you know... the new campaign will report success regardless of whether we, as low-level givers make our annual gifts or not.

Here’s how campaigns work. They announce the “start” of a campaign, but they actually will back-date the counting of the campaign total to the end of the last campaign, in 2010. In other words, 30 to 50% of the goal is already in the bucket. Also, they will count every extraordinary dime given to LSU, from corporate donations to your TAF tradition fund donation. Also expect that the campaign will announce a very large major gift in the next few weeks as a “kick-off” gift for the campaign. Lastly, remember that this time they are counting gifts to the entire LSU system instead of just the LSU main campus, like they did in the last campaign.

In other words, it’s a campaign designed to not fail. Remember this in six years, when the campaign “ends” and it is magically successful... with $1 billion raised.

And yet, the main campus' endowment will still be putrid.

You don’t have to donate to athletics. The campaign’s primary focus isn’t even athletics. Donate to the foundation. Those of you saying you won’t donate because of athletics is just sad.

Correct. By including the other campuses, the main campus’ endowment does not seem to be the focus of this campaign, the way it was for the last campaign... and the one before that.

The vague campaign goals for this campaign concern me.

It’s not just about what’s happening in athletics.

LSU is dealing with a $400,000 misappropriation scandal just this week.

Then there’s the Greek system in disarray, with another high-profile death. And more hazing scandals.

Then there’s the lowering of academic standards for entry, introducing an arbitrary method of review that, to my knowledge, is still not fully explained.

Why should I feel inspired to give to LSU? Every time I turn around there’s evidence of leadership taking LSU in the wrong direction. And I should give to support that leadership? No way.

I believe in academic support and philanthropy. It’s critical. But LSU needs to hold better faith with its people, not the other way around right now.

By no means do I think people should share something as personal as what they would donate, but I would be interested to know what the cumulative total of missed donations due to this.

I do not do much charitable giving, but I do give to the institution that employs me.

That said, if enough people respond in a similar fashion, the development people WILL take notice. It is not always the amounts we give, that are important, although a billion dollar campaign is significant. To foundations and those who give grants, the percentage of participation is almost as important to the effort as the amount collected.

Foundations and those who award grants look at the percentage of those who participate. It is stressed to us that it looks really good to benefactors when 100% of employees/faculty/staff have contributed.

The same will likely apply to engaged alumni.

Yep my thoughts too. Would like to give but why give tacit approval to inept leadership and cronyism?

It's not just athletics. Look how LSU has fallen behind its peer institutions academically. Look at the scandals involving OLOL and the Vet school. Look at how the Greek hazing incident was handled and the LSU employees who knew about it, failed to report it, and were subsequently cleared of all wrongdoing. Look at how from an administrative aspect LSU is more top heavy and money hungry than ever before. You can even look higher at JBE and how he uses scare tactics involving LSU every time he wants more money. It's sick. It's disgusting. It's a prime example of how waste and incompetence is allowed to continue and hinder a fine institution.

It's not just athletics, its everything. Alexander and Alleva are shining examples of what's wrong with LSU and their gross incompetence is trickling down.

I am disgusted and embarassed at the abject lack of leadership and overwhelming incompetence displayed by President F. King Alexander and Athletic Director and Vice Chancellor Joe Alleva

Translated: I really don't know much about what is going on with LSU in general, all I really care about is the football program, in particular and I'm perplexed why anyone would want to fire a guy who thumbs his nose at his boss because he's a winner

As an alumnus, I firmly believe neither Alexander nor Alleva have LSU's best interests at heart -- they are embarrassments of the highest order; therefore, I will not donate a single cent while either one of these individuals is still affiliated with LSU

Translated: Like I said, I really can't afford to give money( that's OK but be honest) So, I'll couch my objection with complaining about the President of the system and the slapdick AD. I wanted Jimbo or Herman, dammit and I'm still upset about it even though Orgeron has won as many if not more games than they have over the last 2 years.....I'll be honest, even if Alexander was gone I'd have a reason not to give any money....I'm from Louisiana , dammit, I'll always poor mouth!!!!!!
