They have no standing on “amateur” athletes.

Correct but college athletics is going far beyond "amateur" status with the benefits packages that are being offered. This will drive up the cost to do business for the NFL which is not something that will be happy about. There are other issues in college sports like collective bargaining litigation, wage and hour litigation, etc. that are still working their way through various courts. Its a mess for the NFL long term IMO but a boom for colleges.

5 for 5 yes, but not others who have "signed" pro contracts, the sec is trying to not consider a participating waiver as a contract, which is a really arbitrary line they've chosen to defend...

Judge just asked Jason Williams "what is amateurism"

Dodged question in amateurism and said he will answer later. Judge said he will want an answer

UnsureTiger, don't let the judge forget to get his answer from Jason Williams...

So now they’re saying it’s about a competitive advantage by scouting and not about the principle of pros coming back to college?

Admins say that discussing the topic of the thread with a perspective that actually considers what comes next legally and realistically is derailing the thread, so I guess I can’t answer any of you that comments on my last post.

I don’t see how that’s LSU’s problem. That is a direct reflection of the leadership of the NCAA.

Its not LSU's problem its a problem for professional sporting leagues like the NBA, MLB, and the NFL long term as the costs to acquire a player increase dramatically. And what's to stop a 1st round NFL draft pick from spurning the Cowboys because he can make more money playing at UT after the Cowboys already drafted him.

Sec says these players knew that going pro would end their college career. It's always been that way. Going pro ends your college career.

The members are bound by the rules. Lsu is a voluntary member of this conference and are bound by the rules of the conference. Changing the rules now doesn't just affect the players in this case. That affects every single player in this conference.

Ncaa eligibility rules have survived every appellate court to date.

Says this judge doesn't need to solve all of college sports. His job is to decide if going to professional sports ends their ability to participate in collegiate sports.

The opportunity of these athletes does matter, but they aren't the only ones whose opportunity matters. There are high school kids who deserve this opportunity that these players have already had.

That is why all 16 universities agreed to these rules. The rules have not changed. What changed is that someone has decided to test the line.

Sec is finished with their arguments

Sorsby did something that has historically gotten people banned from their sports altogether. He also committed actual crimes (underaged gambling, using proxies), he's lucky to have not been arrested if we're being frank.

It's not near the same situation as this at all

I get that, but they were still the institution attached to the situation similar (not exactly the same as) to LSU in this case.

Also, he brought up TTU/Sorsby, not me.
