This is what I was about to post, pure speculation obviously, but I wonder if his connection with Mintz got him on with BarStool. He got that big donation for them. It seems like an amicable breakup with that post, so I wouldnt be surprised if he was moving onto bigger things.

Hunt is a good dude, loves LSU, and is knowledgeable, but he isn't the best at radio. His personality and voice just aren't great for it.
That's not trying to be insulting, I know I'd suck at it too. Every morning would be a lot of Hunt

This doesn't make it sound like it is "contract related". You don't do your show as normal this morning then suddenly "learn today" your employment has ended if your contract expired. You know well ahead of time when you contract will be up.
Certainly the two sides could have reached some sort of impasse on contract negotiations and he decided today just to move on. But if that were the case his actions today (no mention whatsoever on air of it being his last day) and his statement "I have learned today..... would be awfully strange.
If anything, it sounds like he may have known it was possible he could be fired any day now and was (behind the scenes) trying to get a media push to save him. In back to back nights to national commentators/PBP randomly mention him in the broadcast out of the blue

Yeah, I’m sure Hunt is a fine fella. And, to be honest, a lot of the broadcast industry is subjective taste. I probably should have not used “good” or “bad” without saying “he’s not that good to me.” He’s just not my brand of coffee.
Having said that, he’d be a much better option than someone like Josh Innes.
