It`s amazing to me people think so myopicly when it comes
to spending alot of money to build a championship program.
The first thing is that LSU is only responsible for about
10% of her salary ,the TAF the rest(private donors).2nd
as Mark Emmert knew a championship caliber program would
payoff bigtime in the way of major Academic and Athletic
contributions once sucess came.
Alumni and fans love a winner and their scool pride comes
into play when LSU is sucessfull.Yes even womens basketball
brings out the school pride when on a national stage.that
my friends opens up checkbooks above and beyond coaches
saleries.
Some people think Nick Saban wasn`t worth paying 1.4 at
LSU or 8 mil at ALA.,well let me tell you he has brought
in millions of dollars to both Universitys by playing for
championships .

It's about the brand man. We need LSU to be associated with winning national championships. The more every sport contributes to it the more the brand is associated with winning which in turn helps contribute to a winning culture and easier recruiting for all sports.

No. It's ridiculous to spend that much for a coach in a sport that loses so much money. Particularly after the amount of revenue the school and athletic dept lost last year.

didn't realize it was your money
Damn, everybody got so offended by what I said.

No, it's not my money, unless they're paying it with money donated or from tickets I've bought going to other sporting events through the years. Then, yes, it's some of my money. But that's not what I was getting at and I don’t know how they pay the woman's basketball coach. Didn't TAF say their revenue and donations have been down? Hasn't the university been struggling to fundraise as well, especially after all the recent news?

And it's not like you get Kim and you automatically win a championship, which it seems many here equate to when talking of hiring her. I also said I understand the politics of the hire. The PR win of it could be worth more than what you'll have to pay her and I think that is what Woodward and the BOS are probably thinking. Especially at a time like now when LSU needs something good in the news, and even more so if that something good is related to showing a commitment to women's excellence at the university.

I guess my concerns are how long will it take to turn the wbb program around? It seems like a big task right now, but if anyone can, it would probably be Mulkey. Also, and I think this is my biggest worry, is the LSU administration seems incompetent right now, all across the board, from athletics to sports. Can they even make this work? Or will they just continue fricking everything up?

And we know Yahoo and other media outlets will come out with 20 articles written by dirty neckbeard, open mouth picture taking men and fat, ugly, rainbow colored hair women saying LSU is just trying to throw money at a problem.

Regardless, whichever way they go, I hope it works out. I want to see every sports team we have be successful. I just think the numbers I've seen being thrown around to get Mulkey here are crazy. THEY don't even pay Wade that much, much less PM.

Nah, has a room at the Phoenix X so her family can rent a tent at the Mullet Toss. Once she makes her toss will head to campus for the announcement. Didn’t sign up in time yesterday because there was some confusion over whether or not she would be a celebrity tossed. That’s why the announcement was delayed.

There’s never been a better time to spend this much money on a coach like Mulkey. She brings instant female credibility to a school that is mired in a significant controversy related to the abuse of women. LSU putting up big bucks to bolster women’s athletics is the perfect PR move for this moment. It communicates that LSU values women, and, in the current climate, that’s a brilliant use of money.

I didn't think of it this way. I support spending a good amount of money on Mulkey to win games. But if the move get's people virtue signaling feels on, more power to the hire.

Hiring Mulkey for between $2-3M per year isn’t going to break the bank for TAF. Period.

Is it a lot of money? Absolutely, but TAF has plenty and LSU and LSU athletics both need a massive jolt of good news given recent headlines.

This hire is about more than just WBB and Woodward knows that. Seeing LSU ranked in the top 10 and more realistically the top 5 nationally is only icing on the cake.

No, ridiculous was paying a washed up coach 2 million to leave a Youngstown St.

At least this is a proven, elite coach that would bring a ton of positive national branding for the university as a whole.

I really don’t get whining over money here.

If for nothing else, at least you are paying for positive exposure at a time you really could use it.
