Would be pretty cool, but do we really need to spend that much money on a woman's basketball coach? I mean, I want to see all our team's be successful, but I think we can get a good coach for a lot cheaper than she'll come. Especially for a sport with such low visibility. But, maybe this is a way Woodward is trying to take some heat of with all the recent negative headlines of the culture at LSU. It will show they're committed to women's sports excellence as well.

The problem is, they waited so damn long to do something with Nicky, that the roster is beyond depleted now. Mulkey would bring instant credibility, but at what cost? Just hire a young up and comer and let them build the program back, except this time, if it doesn't work, don't wait 10 years. Unless he is trying to hire her for the reason as I mentioned above. Then that sort of political move, I kind of understand.

ETA - I did enjoy the days of Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and ole Pokey Poke. I still maybe wwatched only a few more games instead of none at all. Not trying to be an arse, I know some people love WBB, just speaking from my POV.

You do realize that LSU doesn't pay most of the salary

LSU needs a Title IX win. Full stop. Don’t care what we have to pay to get it.

The money comes from the same resources/donors. And there is only so much money.

Jordy is correct on both points... WNBA assistant?

Why not spend that money on a sport people watch?

When we had Sue Gunter and Poky Chatman with Augustus and that crew, it was fun.

Funny didn’t Dean balk at the 1.2 million Saban was asking for until Emmert stepped in and said pay the man?? Now we have fans saying the same thing.

LSU paid Saban and he lead the groundwork for the school to win 3 national titles and become a power. This is a similar hire to Saban

There will be many LSU people willing to pay for this to happen, and willing to help finabce the new practice facility and/or a new arena

There’s never been a better time to spend this much money on a coach like Mulkey. She brings instant female credibility to a school that is mired in a significant controversy related to the abuse of women. LSU putting up big bucks to bolster women’s athletics is the perfect PR move for this moment. It communicates that LSU values women, and, in the current climate, that’s a brilliant use of money.

Unless you’re being asked to pay for the salary, what the hell do you care?

Is the goal to win championship, or just have a good coach?

The young up and comer just stepped down after running the program into the ground.

Ask Baylor whether Mulkey’s seven-figure salary was worth it. She was the face of their athletic department during the worst scandal since Penn State. She’s also apparently a great fundraiser.

She’s be a home run hire and worth every penny of her salary. I still don’t understand why people care how much the big boosters are willing to pay LSU’s coaches.

Someone mentioned she might already be in LA right now. Not sure how true that is
