LOL. We prepared for it with OM. We prepared for it withArk so to say they weren't prepared is ridiculous. They didn't perform that's for sure but just last week we shut down a running QB that scored 58 points this week.

Kelly continually losing the 1st game of the season is BS. No excuse for that.
Field goal unit was a complete joke. How does Kelly let that happen in the 8th game of the season?
Kelly’s O-line featuring overrated Will Campbell is bad.
Kelly could easily be 4-4 instead of 6-2 if not for great luck.
Elko made Kelly and his team look stupid in the 2nd half.
Kelly is no longer an elite coach, if in fact he ever was one.

How do you know this? Maybe they intended to run as the pass game was stalled. Not preparing for the backup, if that is true, is difficult to understand.

I agree and saw the look on both faces. I was wondering why the defense did not prepare for their second QB. It's on Kelly and we're stuck with BS for the foreseeable future. ND warned us.

Nearly every game you will see a shot (often multiple shots) of him screaming his head off at, presumably, Sloan for something to do with the offense. Yet, the same issues that led to the blow up continue to happen. He pounds the table after USC for not taking advantage of scoring chances
I love this take every time I see it on here. So basically you just don't like him because if that was Saban you would be talking about the players not following football Jesus…
I would be a lot madder if we were playing like that making mistakes right and left and he was not tearing their asses up.

He made one solid throw but the kid is not a very good or accurate passer. Thats the reason Connor was starting.
A&M coaches are morons if Weigman sees the field ever again.
PS - Reed has 6 pass TD/ 0 int. Weigman 3 td 4 int.

Was listening to Houston radio this morning and Lance Zierlein, who's dad was an NFL and NCAA assistant coach, said his dad has told him in the past that in-game adjustments are very hard to do and not really a thing, at least extreme adjustments. He said so much goes into the weekly game install and anything out of that is very difficult for teams to make adjustments for. I'm not making excuses for Kelly and company, but it sounds like if this situation was at least touched on during the week of practice it could have been better. Short fields killed us, but it does seem like they could designate one person to QB and one to RB and roll with that!!!

Greg Penn literally said on Sat they prepared for Weigman to play the entire game. Wilson Alexander tweeted that. They never thought it was a possibility that Reed would play.
I get you can't take much of your practice to plan for 2 QBs even though it wouldnt have hurt to consider that possibility. Yet, there could've been at least a scouting report on Reed in case of the slightest chance he came in. That's a failure on the coaching staff.

The defense was tired. /story.

I agree and we did shift to zone and spying. The problem was that Reed is a LOT faster than Dart and especially Green playing hurt. Green didn’t have any designed runs. He only took off when under pressure.
We just didn’t have a matchup for Green and I’m not sure the staff spending a short period in practice on him would have changed that.

How do you know there wasn’t one from the analysts for the staff? The players have sets to use vs a mobile QB. We play zone and spy. We continued to press the line of scrimmage the first drive and then sat back more after that didn’t work.
For those of you who couldn’t tell. We did adjust what we were doing by Reed’s 2nd full drive. It just didn’t work. We were doing the same things we did much more effectively vs OM and Arkansas. But Reed is faster than Dart and Green, Moss is better than any of their RBs and A&M’s OL is better than either, even with a backup LT in the game. This was going to be a bad matchup for us without a guy like Perkins out there to spy, even with practice time devoted to stopping Reed.

It's not about "liking" or "disliking" BK. And you seem to be confusing yelling at players with yelling at coaches. There have been multiple times this year after false starts, poor plays, etc where Kelly has been shown going ballistic screaming at someone through his headset. He's not chewing out a player at that moment. So unless he's yelling at Cox for unexpectedly increasing his cable bill, it stands to reason he's yelling at a a coach. Given you don't see him often yelling when the defense is on the field (because Baker is right there next to him), it's likely the anger is directed at Sloan. Yet, despite the anger the same issues arise. Same false starts. Same inability to run the ball. Same plays getting in late.
It's not about yelling. It's about a coach clearly recognizing issues, yet seeming doing nothing to address it. It's hard to accept a guy banging on a table bitching about not finishing when you have a chance to, only to see LSU dominate two teams, on the road, in the first half yet have only a 6 and 10 point lead because you couldn't finish.
He's recognizing the issues...he's just not getting them fixed midseason.

Yeah Kelly was just on Finebaum and said that they as coaches need to do a better job and have a plan for the backup quarterback ready to go. He said Baker was on the sideline trying to make a different game plan on the fly but the offense couldn’t stay on field long enough so they tried to revert to the Arkansas game plan from last week but players didn’t practice any quarterback run all week so they didn’t execute well.

Reed is a different kind of athlete. Can’t pass as well as those 2, but much faster. And he’s the best I’ve seen at holding the ball at the mesh point as long as possible before committing to giving it or pulling it.
Read Greg Penn’s quote. We might not have been able to simulate Reed’s speed in practice. But it sounds like they didn’t even contemplate he might play, which is ridiculous because he’s been hurt so much in his career. But it’s the psychological piece of it that bothers me. Asking the defense to flip the psychological switch would have been tough. They could have used just 1 15 minute walkthrough period on Thursday:
“Ok, guys, Weigman has a tendency to get hurt, and if it comes down to it, their backup runs a lot of read option. And he’s really good at waiting until the last minute to pull the ball or give it. So JUST IN CASE we do see him, let’s walk through a couple of plays they run with him to make sure everybody has their assignments down and knows what to do. And remember, he’s faster than any other running QB we’ve played, so we have to be gap sound and make tackles when we have the chance. It may not come up, I just don’t want y’all to get caught off guard if it does.”
And then have Juwan Johnson walk through a couple of read option plays where he holds the ball loner than a normal QB would. A 5 minute talk and walk through 5 plays. Would have taken 10-15 minutes.
But just doing that would have made it much easier to flip that switch psychologically if it was somewhere in the back of their minds. Nuss was throwing picks all over the place, we bitch 3 FG attempts like 1A high school football team, the crowd was insane, etc…but just that tiny little walkthrough could have helped them stay a little more calm. Just the thought that is was possible would have made the transition easier. Would it have made an actual difference? Who knows. But it seemed like everybody was shell shocked and looking around for somebody—anybody—to act like everything was fine, it wasn’t the end of the world. “Remember, we talked about this potentially happening.” Again, we may have lost anyway. We probably would have. But what could it have hurt to spend a few minutes going over it?

He mentioned In the middle of the 4th quarter when the camera panned to baker and Kelly, Their body language and faces had the look of coaches who realized they we’re screwed had no in game adjustments they can make when Reed was in the game.
So you think him opining about their body language (the body language expert that he is) is a damn good point?
