But Mickey was never going to be a 3

we don't know that. he could have been the new "big3/small4" combo

he played a traditional 5 role at LSU, though, wasting his 2 most important years of development.

Better than Mickey I agree....

I get a little pissed when a good discussion/debate gets derailed by a someone who wants to act childish.

Mickey's best bet at his frame is to model his game after Paul Millsap or Draymond Green. He's nowhere near as skilled as those guys.

There's room in the NBA for small ball fours who can play defense and block shots. But Mickey can't dribble, pass, or shoot. He's a college five in an NBA 3/4 tweener body.

if he wants to play at all (even overseas) he absolutely has to develop a jump shot

eta I don't think he will ever become the type of dribbler he needs to be to move out of the 4 spot. He'd essentially have to revamp his entire game.

that's the problem, though

i think his only hope at this point is to try to be aminu, the poor man's draymond green

millsap is a jump shooter who goes past the 3 point line. no way mickey will ever be a 3 point shooter in the NBA

and there is no shame in that. it just severely limits his NBA opportunity

Yes. He can better develop his ball skills and his shot. He'd also have a degree he could fall back on if things don't turn out the way he planned.

Ok laugh all you want... Give me the list of even very good Duke players in the pros..............

FACT.. They get away with what they want on the court playing for Duke. They shove and hack and climb over the back and get away with it there... NOT In the NBA... Okafor will get manhandled by a player like Jordon from the Clips...

Idk what your definition of very good is but Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand, Kyrie Irving, Mason Plumlee, JJ Redick and Luol Deng all come to mind as former/current Duke players who have had great NBA careers.

eta Mason might be a stretch but he's coming along nicely.

etaa Grant Hill, Mike Dunleavy, Jabari parker

I just don't see how Mickey greatly improves his stock to make much of a difference in his stock, he pretty much is who he is.

He could start by learning how to make free throws and layups. If I were an aspiring NBA player, I would certainly concentrate on those two things which he fails at miserably.

This is just bullshite too. The NBA, which is the hardest league to break into in the world, is not gonna take on a debatable 2nd rounder who is clearly not ready for him to learn. He will have a much better chance by staying at LSU than going to Europe. Barkley always says the problem with the ones that don't make it is they leave college too early because college is when you truly learn to play the game.

OK.. Barkley Said So ?

He does not have a "better" chance to make it in the NBA by staying at LSU and losing minutes to Simmons.. maybe Mickey goes and his minutes stay the same.. either way he is a tweener still... if he can make an NBA roster he will get much better instruction and competition compared to what is offered in college

If his dream is to get drafted, and play in the NBA he needs to decide to stay today, get with a shooting coach tomorrow, and shoot 15 footers until his hands fall off...

if he manages to find a decent midrange jump shot, I dont see why he cant fill a deep bench role... kinda like a Dante Cunningham

I want him to stay too, but he can learn how to shoot from any shooting coach. Doesn't have to be at LSU.

I really believe Mickey should go. He needs to put all his time in basketball. He has lots to work on but who doesn't. Nothing wrong with D-leauge or Euro for a few years to develop. He can be another Josh Thomas ( from Duke ) work way up and get in league.

He had 5 seasons in the NBA and played in 157 games.

He averaged 19 minutes a game at 23 years old and started 8 games as a rookie despite not being drafted. He had a solid career
