And my point is Dupree>>Mickey.

I don't disagree but I also think we got to see more of Dupree in college so it's an unfair comparison. I haven't looked up stats from Dupree's sophomore year or accolades. Pretty sure it was 2nd team All SEC and like 12-14 a game iirc.

This thread should really be titled:

"Jordan Mickey considering leaving school two years early to go undrafted, play a few years in ukraine, maybe get a cup of coffee with a d league team at some point, and then looks to coach an aau team after his "retirement" in 4 years"

He's a good college player but its downright laughable that this dude thinks he's making an nba roster next year. He needs to come back and work on creating his own shot.

Also to the guy comparing him to ronald dupree. Dupree was a far better college player than Mickey. I mean Dupree was a downright stud

I'm very hopeful that whatever route Jordan Mickey takes, it works out for him. Whether it be in Europe, Baton Rouge, or elsewhere. Would love him on the team next year and obviously think the support group that he has on campus can help motivate Jordan to become a better player, but none of us here truly know how Jordan feels and the ill effects school may have on his ability to become a better player.

He should absolutely declare for the NBA, test his stock, and get told what to work on without signing an agent. I don't think he did it last year

This. We don't know his family situation either. He could feel like it's his responsibility to take care of his family, and wants to make money as soon as possible.

millsap is a jump shooter who goes past the 3 point line.

Was Millsap always a 3 pt shooter in his basketball career? I seriously do not remember him shooting 3s in college.

Marc Gasol wasn't a shooter before the NBA

Blake Griffin wasn't a shooter until about 5 months ago

plenty more examples

Key point here - he hasn't declared yet...

He probably will but that could just entail getting an evaluation and not hiring an agent until/unless he gets the grade he wants.

Odds are he declares, signs with an agent and is gone but the kid gave 2 great years to LSU. This season didn't finish the way he wanted but life goes on. Best of luck to him.

If he comes back, then he'll be welcomed back with open arms as a leader of the team.

nope. he really just started shooting a lot of 3s when he got to the Hawks. didn't shoot many at all in Utah.

Mickey's best bet at his frame is to model his game after Paul Millsap or Draymond Green. He's nowhere near as skilled as those guys.

Not even close.

the fact that he hasn't developed a jump shot at LSU tells me it has not been a point of emphasis in practice. JJ liked for him to play big. I think he needs a coach/trainer who's only goal is to help him develop in areas that would lead to a successful NBA career.

He would be the Trevor Faulk of basketball.

He had a solid career

He played in over half the games of an NBA season twice, and that was 47 games his first 2 years. 36 the following, then went downhill hard. He made good money and is hopefully set for life, especially with overseas money. He played with 5 teams in 6 seasons, getting bounced around a lot. Point again is that I think Dupree, and many who have seen them think, is better than Mickey.

No one expects to see Mickey starting in the NBA.

That's every sport genius but unfortunately athletes these days don't think like that

that's because injury doesn't stop you from going back to school.

Mickey was a great player for LSU for almost the whole year. He just about averaged a double-double, led the SEC in rebounds & blocks and was 3rd in FG %. However, those last few games were bad and it would be hard to go out on that note if that was me and I had missed that many consecutive free throws to get bounced from the tournament. Then again, I don't know his situation and I wasn't in a position to get money from one place or another by leaving college early.

His shot blocking is great, but the NBA is an offensive league and he is too timid at times for the NBA right now.
