QB Jordan Jefferson = 3 star on Rivals.com and 2 stars on Scout.com...

I know that QB Thomas is a 4 star but have we EVEN offered any 5 star QB's a scholarship?...If we expect to compete for the National Championship year in and year out, We need to do a better job of offering scholarships to more 4 and 5 star recruits...

Dude, first of all, you are about to get sounded off on by this board for that comment... second of all, YES, we went hard after Dayne Crist, one of the Top 5-star pocket passers in the country from California and he chose Notre Dame instead... Then we took a big swing at E J Manuel, one of the Top dual-threat 5-star QBs in the country and we couldn't get him...

chill out

By the way, this quote really tells the story:

quote:

“It feels real good,” Jefferson said. “Coach (Les) Miles said he wanted to talk to me before the game and when we went in and sat down he said he wanted me and that I had an official scholarship offer. Once he said that I knew what my answer was and I said I wanted to be a Tiger.”

Jefferson said that he had a good feeling an offer was coming from when he spoke to Miles earlier in the week and he was told to bring his parents along so they could all talk.

“I had a good feeling that an offer was going to come when they asked me to bring my parents,” Jefferson said. “We had already talked about it and decided that if they offered I was accepting it on the spot because this is where I wouldn't to be."

It basically says that Miles gave up on Manuel and Crist reversing their decisions and took the in-state kid who has been waiting on an offer since this summer... Jordan is the leader of an undefeated and top team, but all reports are that he is having a very normal season considerint all of the talent surrounding him - thus I doubt Miles is offering him now due to his great production this year which has enhanced his value... I think we are clearly offering him because we gave up on turning Manuel and Crist

Jefferson could be a diamond in the rough, you never know. Miles has done a pretty good job so far, so I give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, there will be plenty of quarterbacks next year and the year after, we don't need (nor is it possible) to recruit a Top 5 QB every single year.

Lot of talent, couple years of good coaching, and he'll be very good.

You're not going to get a 5* at every position every year.

Please, do us all a favor and stop posting about recruiting. You only show your ignorance.

Well I didnt know all we had to do was offer those guys, I was under the impression that geographical area was the most important aspect to state university recruiting. Someone get Les on the phone and let him know just to call and offer some of these 5 stars.

PS, ask USC and Notre Dame where their multiple 5 stars at skill positions are putting them, I can guarantee you where Clausen will be during the NC game, sitting on his arse watching Matt Flynn.

Robert Lane was a 5 star guy, and JR was a 4 star, along with Flynn.

Stars dont mean much.

I disagree, sort of . TT, DByrd, and Chad Jones were all 5*. Look what they are doing. Although I do agree that there are guys out there, i.e. Hester, that can shine even without the stars, but the odds are better in your favor if you can recruit the higher rated guys. With that being said, I do think that the coaches have a good eye for talent. I just hope they can land a couple more bigtime recruits to hedge their bets.

Actually your correct, We need to do a better job... at least do more offering of scholarships to more 5 and 4 star players...

And...Yes, i know that we offered Manuel and Crist...I wasn't reffering to those two...

I was wondering why we never did offer 5 star recruit Terrelle Pryor, I understand that he is from Pennsylvania, but so what...Nothing says we have to only recruit the Southern US...We need to recruit 4 and 5 star athletes, it should not matter where they are from...we could have at least gave Pryor an offer! He hasn't even committed yet and with us being number one, i do not see why he wouldn't wanna play here if we would offer him...especially if we win the MNC!

And what about 4 star recruit and number 4 in the nation Blaine Gabbert from Missouri...If your saying it is about location, Missouri is closer to us than PA. is and we never even offered him either...

Just because Pryor and Gabbert are highly rated by the recruiting trades, does that mean that they would fit at LSU or the direction of our offense? What if they are overrated?

In general, I like seeing us grab more highly-sought-after recruits too, but that doesn't mean we should offer the entire Rivals 100... I also believe that such recruits who have camped with us that we taken commitments from who are not-so-highly-rated guys are not such a bad thing...

I was skeptical when we took Trindon Holiday late a few years back because of his size and the fact that he was not highly recruited by over big schools and not highly rated (both probably because of his size) -- and yet it has worked out great for us...

Ultimately, you have to hope Miles knows what he is doing and I think he does

Once you step on campus, your stars fade into nothing.

Stars may be a good indictation sometimes, but dont base a class of them based on our star ratings
