Woodward honestly may have just tied his job to the footballs team's performance next year.

If they finished unranked again and not even in the playoff discussion in November but you can't fire the coach due to the contract- then Woodward is likely the head that rolls.

No chance. Woodward has two basic job requirements. Make money and to a lesser extent, avoid scandals that give the university as a whole a black eye. He has killed it in both of those aspects. Of course, if we suck at football and he makes bad hires in other sports, eventually corporate backing diminishes and revenue suffers, he would be at risk at some point. Nothing like that is even remotely on the radar right now (other than the MBB program, which still runs at a profit despite on court failure), and in his tenure, he has excelled at generating revenue.

Him basically extending McMahon is beyond stupid in my opinion, and Kelly not making the playoffs in year 4 would be a gut punch, but neither of these will put Woodward on the hot seat.

LSU athletics is 6th in the nation in revenue

I don't think he gets fired, but if LSU fails to live up to expectations in football this aura of greatness LSU fans have for Woodward will disappear. He will quickly go from hometown hero/savant to the jackass that put a noose around the neck of LSU's two biggest sports with LONG contracts the school can't easily get out from under despite underachieving.

frick up in basketball and you get a few people like me and others angry. frick up in football and the whole state is pissed.

That's my point. Football fricking up (unless we start having actual losing seasons) will not get him fired and offering coaches contracts the BOS approved will not get him fired. UNTIL it starts to show up in department revenue.

I have no dog in this fight and think he is neither a hero/savant or jackass. He is basically a CEO of a company with a $220M annual revenue which is up 10% over the previous year. By that measure, he is killing it at his job, regardless of the results on the field. I don't happen to agree with this being his measuring stick, but that's what big time college athletics has become.

Or we can just stop bitchin and be smart and look at the data. Bottom 3 spending teams in NIL are the bottom 3 in on court product. Spend the money necessary to compete with your peers, then evaluate where we are. If not...don't expect to be better than them.

Where exactly is this data?

Not just conjecture and BS thrown out by reporters (fed info by LSU), but actual data.

It seems a bit coincidental that we suddenly find out in a puff piece at the end of the season that the (checks SEC standings) bottom 3 teams are also the the "lowest spenders". Particularly South Carolina whose donors curiously decided after the program's best regular season in decades they were going to give the HC a nice raise/extension...then IMMEDIATELY stop giving NIL money?

Georgia currently sits in 4th to last. Let me guess, the data also shows they are 4th to last in NIL spending too, right? They have a relatively tough schedule to end the season. If they slip further down the SEC standings will the "data" then show they are 3rd to last in NIL funding? 2nd to last?!

LSU would have been better off saying: "We don't actually have any objective justification for bringing back the worst performing HC in 50 years for another season. So here is this unverifiable 'data'" to make you think there is any justification because we (a) don't want to admit the mistake just 3 years in and (b) can't convince our donors to fully commit the $10M buyout the AD saddled us with to end this waste of time."

The data says that LSU finished fifth in recruiting 2/3 years of McMahon’s tenure and 10th in the other. That doesn’t reflect bottom 3 NIL spending. Instead, the on court results reflect a bad coach.

Well, you see, LSU just spent all of their (relative) pennies on HS recruiting, leaving nothing for transfers. It's understandable though. They just didn't realize the transfer portal was important.

For this to carry weight, you would have to believe the talent on this year’s team is at/near the bottom 3 in the league.

Or is it more likely we have a bottom 3 coach?

This isn't what they've been told to believe, so therefore they can't understand it.

He has NO roster and NO NIL funding.....I dont think any coach can win these days without millions to play with....lots of millions!

I give CMM another 2 years with funding and see what happens.

I hate the state of college sports!

Hypocrite. The audacity to call something "fake news" after you got caught spreading fake news a little over 24 hours ago. Double standard, and hypocritical.
