He's got my support if hired, but I agree with the skeptical part of your statement. He's definitely not number one on my list.
Gregg Marshall! Make it happen.

How anyone could support hiring him as LSU's basketball coach is incomprehensible.

How is me supporting the guy the same as saying he will only win 20 games total the next 5 years?

A better coach than Jones.

That would be awesome.

Jamie Dixon is who I wanted 4 years ago & would still be high on the list.
I realize he may not take it, but LSU should not consider settling for a North Texas coach. There's plenty of money to put together an attractive package for a very good coach.

Some of you need to face facts and realize LSU Mens Basketball is a shitty job to take at the moment.
No, no its not.

Trent Johnson was 80-48 at Stanford, and never missed the tournament. If you aren't basing his future coaching success on record, what qualities tell you he will not be a good fit here?

There is nothing attractive about the LSU Men's Basketball program right now. Its a terrible job right now.

$2 million per year or more is attractive to a lot of good coaches. Just need to find one that's interested in recruiting.
Basketball programs can be turned around almost immediately with the right guy.

I assure you Johnny Jones is interested in recruiting.

So am I, but LSU shouldn't hire me as basketball coach.

Then hire a guy who has head coaching experience, has recruiting ties in Texas and Louisiana, has been to the tournament, has had 5 consecutive 20 win seasons, and genuinely wants to be here.

91-88 conference record in the crappy Sun Belt is not what LSU needs to hire.

I don't know enough about available coaches to have a top choice... but I would say Johnny Jones' name isn't the 1st I'd think of.
However, he would be a better fit than Johnson was. He knows the area to recruit, and now has some better Texas ties to help in that field. He has a connection to LSU, and presumably would have some additional motivation to restore the luster to this program.
to add- did a little research on Jones at North Texas, and it appears he has been very successful. He took a dismal program (total of 20 wins for 4 seasons prior of his arrival), and made it one of the best in it's league. 5 20 win seasons, and 18 wins and a conference tourney finals appearance this year, in what should have been a rebuild year. Crappy conference? Maybe so, but he was dealt a crappy team in that crappy conference, so it wasn't like he had any advantage that way.
Bottom line- he may have the X/O's to win at the college level. He SHOULD have the memories of the Deaf Dome and what it takes to make basketball relevant at LSU. If Dale taught him the marketing aspect, if LSU is more than just another job to him, he'd be a great fit.
