Post Freeman’s in the 4 team playoff era.

Nice. How about the fact they also only played one 9 loss P4 team instead of three with 9+ losses.

And they played a Cinci team that made the playoff

Oh and P5 combined record was 55-60 (0.478) vs 42-56 (0.426) P4 records. You have Virginias record wrong. They were 6-6

And I showed records in the regular season as bowls don’t really mean anything anymore for the last 20 years.

But again, this season was harder, right?

It’s “disingenuous” to ask for evidence of a major bowl win in a 12 year career at Notre Dame?

When you’re comparing Kelly’s tenure at ND to Freeman’s in a 12 team playoff era, yes it’s a bit disingenuous.

No. But Notre Dame always got bigger bowls than it was built for because their fanbase travels well and their history.

Again, beating an extremely overrated Indiana team that lucked into the Super conference schedule lottery winner like Texas did in the SEC doesn’t mean they were a good win.

This year is a fluke year until these conferences fix their scheduling there were 3 very good teams in the Big Ten this year: tOSU, Oregon and PSU. Indiana played exactly one and got slaughtered.

UGA played one of the toughest schedules of the last decade or two and was beat up, missing their multi-year starting QB, had a significant layoff and ND got every lucky break in that game.

This is a weird year and should be taken with a grain of salt when extrapolating what it means.

Well that's not true as I named two 3-9 teams.

Ok so I'd say that's equivalent to Indiana or Georgia this year.

Hell yeah. Much more impressive.

I'm not saying that this year was so much harder. You can go look at the Colley matrix SOS between the two years since that's what you cited earlier.

I mean he's asking for a single New Year's Six bowl win I believe. Doesn't even have to be a playoff game.

How has Freeman “elevated it” exactly? Did ND win a national championship I’m unaware of?

BK had them in 2 playoffs and a championship game. In no way can anyone say that ND is “elevated” over BKs time there at this point.

And I’m asking for the same for Freeman prior to the 12 team playoff?

They’ve shifted the goalposts multiple times

One thing is for sure next year is gonna make one group look smart and the other look like dumbasses

There aren't any. This is only his 3rd year as a head coach. Why aren't you including this year?

Because the entire narrative is Freeman has elevated ND. The 12 team playoff is the entire reason ND was even in the field this year as compared to Kelly’s last year when they were #5 and left out of the playoff.

It’s disingenuous to suggest Freeman is doing better than Kelly when Kelly never got to experience the 12 team playoff at ND. It’s all hypothetical horseshite that can be misconstrued to fit whatever narrative you’d like.

If the 4 team playoff was still in play this year, ND would’ve been left out and who knows if they would’ve won a major bowl. In the same vein, if Kelly was still at ND you cannot definitively say he would or wouldn’t have matched what freeman has done. It’s not apples to apples. It’s just a way for Kelly haters to say Freeman is doing so much better than Kelly.

It’s really simple if you just watch the games and how LSU vs ND play. In the 3 years under Kelly LSU has looked undisciplined, outcoached, and just downright lazy in a handful of important games every year which dates back to ND. I’m just not confident in him leading a team to a Championship. Just haven’t seen it in big games. Outside of a couple of years @ ND Kelly’s teams always underperform

It sounds like you are the one talking about hypotheticals. Of course it's not apples to apples. Just like saying making the national championship game in the BCS era is the same as making it in the 12 team playoff format. It's not, it's much more difficult to make the national championship game now than it was back then

Without the 12 team playoff, what has Freeman accomplished?

Is NDs success different than before, or is it a result of the change of the playoff system?

Harder than the BCS?

Freeman has done a great job to win two playoff games, no question, but under the current 12 team system, BK would have made the playoffs in 7 of his years at Notre Dame. Let’s not pretend that ND doesn’t have an incredible built in advantage in the 12 team playoff world

Again, you are talking about 2 years of a first time head coach. He's not going to have a laundry list of accomplishments.
