yeah that was my point.

we totally forget that he calls all the plays that work out too.

and he has some nice plays too.

That inside run we had with Thomas is a well designed play.

If you go back and watch the game tying drive you will see BK telling JS
to run the ball on that 3rd and long on that drive. They gained 5 yds and the next play was the touchdown.

Yeah I thought the 3rd down setup was really smart. I said the same thing that night, but Ole Miss might have given us a completely different look if it was 4th & 10 instead of 4th & 5.

Sloan might become an elite play caller, but he isn’t one at this point in his career.

Everyone says Lane is one of the best with his offense. Getting the most out of his players. The second half, Old Miss never got a TD. Also being shutout in the first quarter.
Between LSU and Ole Miss, total offense was 43 yards difference.

He sucks arse at playcalling. Kelly promoted him for the sole purpose of keeping Underwood. You could say that Kelly was putting all of his eggs in one basket when he did that, but the potential return on keeping Underwood is huge. He’s a once-in-a-generation player who will be a huge boost on the offensive side of the ball. Only question I have is if Kelly will have an offensive line that can protect him, since a good chunk of the OL from this year will be gone next season.

The HC telling the OC to run it or pass it is not uncommon. Happens all the time.

Now if BK told him what specific play to call that is different.

The Head Coach does this all the time. I remember Jimbo saying, "When Nick says to run clock, you run clock!"

We don't fricking know that. On pass plays, there's more than one guy in the route. People were bitching about Nuss throwing 20 yds deep all game... on the tying TD (a 20 yd pass), there was someone open for the first down.
I'm willing to bet there were guys on shorter routes on other plays, and Nuss CHOSE to go to the deeper option.

Now, that may not even be bad. Nuss has a strong arm, we normally don't see many drops (there were more this last game, and they were close plays, than we've seen all year). If the ball gets there, it's there to be caught.
Maybe the coaches saw something, a hole in their defense that we could exploit.

As for runs not working, that's kinda dependent on personnel as well as call. I don't think Kaleb Jackson can run at this level out of the shotgun. I think he could be an effective I Back, someone like Charles Scott, Spencer Ware.
I don't think Josh Williams is anything more than a gritty player. He has heart, not NFL talent.
Durham, I think he can run out of the gun, and we would feature him going forward if his toes weren't fricked up. He can't really cut well right now, and he's a freshman anyway, they often take time to emerge.
And I think Nuss is VERY effective in the shotgun, so that's the first priority. He's spreading the ball around, using the TE, hitting all WRs. Our O Line might not be mashing on the run, but they are pass-protecting, so we're getting yards in chunks.

It's funny, I bet people think Sloan sucks and Baker is great (I think he is too, by the way). I heard today for JUST SEC games, our offense is around 4th or 5th, and our defense is 14th.

How do you know? Do you have access to the comms on the field?

BK doesn’t even have a play call sheet and his mic is up most of the game, you twat. There is a camera in the booth which shows Sloan calling along with his team of analysts.

The On3 guys mentioned today that the Jackson 4th down run was a busted play and wasn’t what was called. Jackson wasn’t supposed to take the ball. It was supposed to either a shovel or short pass to Thomas set up by the fake. Jackson blew it and took the ball at the mesh. This is one I know a lot of people blamed on Sloan and Kelly.

You know watching that play as it happened it looked like Nussmeier and Jackson were kind of fighting for the ball. It looked like a read where Nussmeier was trying to pull it out but Jackson held on to it and the QB looked confused. That explanation makes a lot of sense.

Well your amateur opinions are wrong. Ole Miss ran some different defensive sets that they haven’t shown on film this year. We made the adjustments and got the offense rolling. Sloan called plays the whole game.

That was on Nuss, not Jackson.

Perception is reality.

Sloan is learning right now but is far from bad as some say. LSU fans are completely spoiled right now with the offenses that have been here in the last 5 years or so. Who would have thought that sentence would ever be uttered?

I think there is a disconnect between Kelly, Sloan, Davis, and Wilson. Maybe the right people are young or on the bench learning now, but the guys on the field simply have not gelled to establish any running game. I wonder if there are people being asked to do things that are not their strengths. I can only assume that younger players will have strengths that match up with what the coaches want to do.

Before the season, if you’d have told me our total offense rank would be in the top 25 after 6 games, I would’ve been ecstatic.

We are 24th in total yards. Top 1/4 of all teams by many metrics.

Keep in mind, this is after losing >80/85% of our offensive production - and a Heisman QB - from last year.

Some of y’all need a vacation.

Sloan calling 2nd and long runs are so damn annoying. It's terrible strategy. He is playing for a higher percentage third down at that point and not to gain maximum yards.

But he’s not a great OC, at least not yet.
Jesus he hasn’t even called plays for a whole year. Let me guess Matt House was the second coming of buddy Ryan after his first year at LSU? Let’s not forget Sloan is taking over an offense that replaced a heisman trophy winner QB who was a 4 year starter and two first round picks at WR and he still has this offense ranked in the top 25 still scoring 30+ point again. You think this offense was just going to continue to be top 5 and rolling after replacing those guys and breaking in a new QB and WR group? get with reality

The two TD plays at the end of the game were about as perfect as it gets. Drawing guys off to open the middle for Anderson. Putting Lacy in motion to get the matchup on OM’s weakest corner. Yeah, he totally sucks.

Awesome

two plays!
