On another note, Lanard Fournette got the first handoff of the season if I recall coreectly and I haven't seen him in much action since....That seems odd...

WRs need to stop dropping perfect passes.

This is 60% of the problem. It's 39% OL inconsistency. It's 1% Joe Burrow.

What is a reasonable expectation for dropped passses?

I honestly don’t know the answer.

All teams certainly have drops, but what % of drops would be the goal to be under?

Burrow stat by SoFreshIt shows me how much room for improvement we have in the offense.

SPOT ON. JB's decision making ability with the ball has been excellent. He is in complete control of the OFF, and is not afraid to audible at the line to a better call. Completion % will come with more reps with his receivers and better protection from OL. Their best FB is still ahead of them.

NFL drop rate runs around 7.5% of catchable passes and 4.5% of total passes. I'd say a good target for college would be getting sub 7% of attempts dropped. For a team like LSU, you're talking about 2 or fewer drops per game would be above average.

True enough

I remember OBJ could barely catch his first year.
That's a bit of a stretch. Now Brandon Lafell, well, lets just say I used to call him butterfingers early on. Though you could see he'd get better. He would catch the tough throws and drop ball right in his hands. As his concentration got better, he turned into the special player everyone expected him to be.

young receivers seem to drop good passes.

Because it has been a consistent thorn in the side of LSU offenses and people worry, as they should.

LSU is still a running team.

They are but just not as good at it as they have been in the past.

He throws the ball in the middle of the field and down field more often. There is more of a variety of throws and some of them are more difficult to make.

Have you seriously not watched 1 game all season? It's not Burrow that's the problem. He's putting most passes on target

To be fair. 90% of his incompletions are because Giles just flat fricking dropped the ball.

I simply think our offensive scheme makes playing QB more difficult than most.
I watch Bama every week.

I watch Clemson every week.

I watch OU.

I watch a whole bunch of other really good teams. And every week i see those teams scheme WRs open very often, all game long vs shite teams, and still get guys open a good amount of the time against bad teams.

LSU has not done that consistently for an entire game yet. We simply do not scheme WRs open nearly enough.

My guess is because Brossette and CEH are playing well.

I thought we'd see more Curry than we have. He only has 4 carries for 1 yard.

THIS x 1,000,000,000

I also wish fans understood how difficult it is to pass the football when our offensive line has not been able to stay healthy since opening night. They don't just run block. They also pass block, call audibles, and read one another to form one tough front. If we keep changing the players and the positions, they can never get any continuity or consistency.

With Burrow we have a QB that can make the plays we have to have to win.
With Etling Harris Jennings JJefferson. We lose to Auburn and Miami.

Burrow is not Tua ..ok

Yep Oline has to get better. WR have to get better. We are changing a run first offense on the fly.

Our receivers have to get better separation. Our line has to,protect batter. Now we are going to play

Is it scheme or execution ? Who knows.? Now we face an opponent that we should run the ball on. Anyway Burrow has only started 4 games. There has been observable growth

.

Probably because that was the statistic used to vilify the last few LSU QBs. It was confirmation for those who claimed DT QBs are inaccurate. However back then WR drops and throw always weren’t considered. WR drops and throw always are now justification for the low completion percentage.

Agree with most of your post. But not on throw aways. Most throw aways are from a breakdown in pass blocking, or solid coverage by DB's. Another cause is coaching orders - i.e., "If you're not seeing a 95% safe throw (from a pick) throw it in the stands, a punt is WAY better than a pick."
