Joe Alleva gets a bad rap, when you think about it

Joe Alleva is the "Athletic Director," not the "Football Director." If, like me, you don't like the Orgeron hire, whether it is a good hire is up in the air. Alleva gets much maligned, but most of it is not warranted. I think most colleges would love to have Alleva as their A.D. His handling of Duke Lacrosse was atrocious, but we hired him anyway so it is too late to complain about that.

His basketball coach hire has received raves from everyone (except me).

The baseball team went to the NC last year.

Women's sports (with Title IX, a major part of his job) are doing well.

The gymnastics team is doing exceptionally well.

The only big rub is the Orgeron hire. I'm not an Orgeron fan. Alleva didn't handle the Miles issue well either, and he has admitted that he did not do so.

Now, if Orgeron fails this year, then Joe Alleva may deserve a bad rap.

As much as I love the success of softball and gymnastics (really, they do make me incredibly proud). It's not what drives LSU, it's not what pays for LSU, and it's not what the majority of LSU fans care about.

ETA: He didn't hire Paul, Skip did. He also inherited basically a top 2-3 if not THE top college baseball program in the country with built in fan support as well as the resources to keep succeeding. He simply needs to not get in the way.

Also he was handed Will Wade by Eddie Nunez, again, he succeeded by not getting in the way. Joe succeeds the most when he does the least.

Didn't he hire JJ too? It's his handling of the Miles/O fiasco that was so asinine.

It’s not so much the Orgeron hire as the absolute joke of a “search” he conducted before hiring him.

Right.

If an AD picked names for a coach out of a hat and he wound up hiring that coach and he was good, does he deserve credit for it?

I agree. But, if Orgeron does well then his hire will be validated, regardless of the technique used to make it.

If Orgeron bombs, then he deserves criticism.

My fear is a bunch of 3 loss seasons - never enough to justify a firing, but never enough for the fans.

How is 3 losses not enough to justify a firing?

What's wrong with that? I wish more of our legislators were "do nothings." Sometimes, the best approach is to let others do their job.

He couldn't have bungled the Miles firing / non-firing /finally firing more if he actually tried to bungle it. Then he followed that fiasco with the most inept coaching search ever.

Fire a guy because his offense wasn't good enough and hire a DLine coach. Brilliant. Oh wait. DLine coach promises his offensive genius pal will come spearhead the offense. Lets hire Coach O before checking to see if Kiffin is actually interested. Oh wait, he isn't. But O does have a mighty pretty binder.

shite show on the football side and football pays the bills. He deserves all the ridicule in the world. Hell, even if O somehow turns things around (he won't), it will still be the most embarrassing handling of firing a coach / hiring a coach in my lifetime.

Even interviewing orgeron for the head coaching position was rediculous much less hiring him. He’s the most unqualified candidate I can remember with a history of being the biggest disaster in ole miss history. Unreal he hired this clown

So, basically you started a thread to complain about Alleva getting a bad rap, but you're complaining about the ONE thing he has actually done right?
