Bro, the extension/raise has been drawn up, approved, everything but signed.

Done deal

This reads like a late-night DALSU post from three years ago.

You don’t give an extension to a coach that NOBODY else wants. If we win out and finish ranked in the top 10, then give him a bonus but you don’t extend his contract until he fixes the offense like he promised to do when he wa hired.

Extensions have nothing to do with who else wants him. That's the buyout, which I specifically said shouldn't be increased by much, if any at all. You can extend a coach without increasing his buyout, if they will sign.

LSU should offer such a deal and if Orgeron doesn't take it, so be it.

Why does he deserve an extension? His contract ends in 2021.

11-2, which would likely include a NY6 bowl, would be LSU's best seasons since 2011 and would earn Orgeron a small raise and extension.

Denying that is fricking dumb.

Have we won 11 games yet? Are we a lock for a NY6 bowl? How about we wait and let things play out before we throw away money.

I literally said this earlier in the thread.

quote:

If LSU wins out he's earned an extension, as long as it's not obnoxious and the buyout doesn't increase much, if at all. I do not mean the regular season, I mean the 3 remaining scheduled games and the bowl game.

If you can't follow along with simple dialogue you're going to struggle on message boards. Just saying.

I follow along just fine. I just think it’s way too early for LSU to even be considering extending O’s contract, especially if he brings Ensminger back next year as OC.

Apparently you don't.

It happens every single year with multiple programs. If a coach has a good season that exceeds expectations it's leveraged into an extension. LSU is no different.

Les Miles did it in 2014 after 3 mediocre seasons.

Ok man. If you’re cool with LSU handcuffing itself to Orgeron like it did with Miles, that’s fricking great for you. I’m not ok with that. I don’t want to think about extending his contract on the heels of the shite show I witnessed this past weekend. At least make Ed keep his promise and fix the putrid offense before you give him a fricking extension.

Now, take your condescending attitude and go frick yourself.

Getting butthurt about the way, literally, every college football program operates these days is a great way to go about it. A 1-2 year extension with a minimal salary increase after an 11 win season isn't some crazy idea, it's pretty much SOP for college football. Not to mention, if Orgeron wins 11 games this season he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

If that bothers you I suggest you start following another sport.

IF LSU goes 11-2 when it's all said and done this season, I could live with a 2-year extension but it would be insane to offer him a large buyout as well.

It's probably not realistic to think Alleva won't give him a huge buyout as well. And that would be fricking stupid.

Ensminger/Canada alone should keep O from an extension until next year. He's locked in long enough right now.

Alleva gave him a buyout when there wasn't another school interested in hiring him. I'm sure an extension will come with a new one. If that happens I'll be disappointed, but I'm not going to lose my shite over it like the Longhorn fan.

There is literally no other major program that LSU needs to seriously worry about snaking Orgeron away. An excessive buyout at this point would be completely unnecessary, especially since Coach O has said this is his dream job.

Alleva is an idiot. Of course he’ll increase Ed’s buyout. This is the guy who “accidentally” forgot to change the buyout on the contract after Herman walked.

I don’t trust Alleva and the current administration to make sound financial decisions regarding the football program.

Ed is locked in for 2 more years. Revisit the extension idea after next season.

No one is advocating for an excessive buyout.

Hanagrif said the same thing. Why not let Orgeron’s contract run its course, no one is looking to steel Orgeron away from us.

Seriously, extension for what? He's under contract for two more years. We don't need to pay him more, and he hasn't achieved anything worth extending him.

One of the first times I've ever agreed with you.

Except, I think he has three years remaining.

Not sure why you need to extend a coach during year 2 of a 5 year deal. It's not like we're some mid major who needs to lock up our coach before a bigger program comes calling. And if he can't recruit with 3 fricking years left, then maybe he isn't the right guy for the job.

The only thing I could possibly see would be renegotiating the buyout portion. I think by the end of December it's going to down around $4 million.
