He lost it about 10 years ago. Good news for people that have to listen to the radio

Why?
For talk radio his voice is fine, but he lacks the electricity, inflection, and enthusiasm to pull off more up-tempo sports.
As someone who has ambitions of doing play-by-play someday, I pay particular attention to things like that.

that's actually kinda sad.
It's eerie.
Won't be the same with someone else.

He's a terrible, terrible play by play guy.

while the last few years have been rough listening at times, I've associated his voice w/ LSU my entire life and I'll miss him.
congrats Jim!

Jordy Hultberg
Tim Brando
Joe Dean Jr
Gordy Rush
They could split all the sports up
Blanton and add another for hoops
Baseball combo of Henagrift, Rantz and Franques
Football I could see Rush sliding in - my guess is Moreau could retire too

his voice is/was legendary and we'll see that right away with whoever replaces him.
I don't have to hate Jim Hawthorne to say that's just sheer silliness.

Emjoy your retirement, Jim....and be careful.

I'm probably in the minority....but I always liked Hawthorne.....I'm gonna' miss him....
He was very good. His eyesight left him a few years back. And, a lot of the kids because of their age don't value the amount of time he's been here and the quality he provided for a long time.

Finally
I only kid, Jim was great on the radio, he needs to retire he has lost his edge but he will be missed.

Listening to Jim's broadcasts of baseball games have been frustrating over the years to say the least.
At one time, his baseball broadcasts were very good.

KH makes you think you are watching the game on tv. By far the best play by play on radio

Hopefully they can teach him what offensive goaltending is before he's done.

I want to agree, but I think I was just young back then and didn't know better.
He's been horrible at baseball for a while now, which is a problem because that's the only sport I ever have to listen to.

No Hawthorne. No Javi. The rant is gonna be running out of things to complain about during baseball season after this year

Just wait. Hawthorne has made some calls that will be talked about forever. Good and bad. His voice has been synonymous with LSU athletics for over 30 years. But yeah, he won't be missed by anyone at all.
