He's still going to experiment but it's more about his mindset and not letting the team overlook midweek games.
If you ever played any team sport at any level, you'd know there is a natural tendency to ease up or slack off when an opponent is perceived as weaker.

I was able to get enough of it.

the RPI doesn't differentiate between conference and non-conference.
This doesn’t change the fact that most people that say “mid week games aren’t that important” are merely saying that because if you win 20 SEC games then you are a top 8 seed.
Our whole argument is while all games matter it’s more important to win 2 out of 3 every weekend in SEC play than winning the games during the week.
Also it’s a myth that CPM lost a lot of midweek games. Yes he lost some but the overall record was still very good.

I remember one year LSU was playing mid-week game at Zephyr (maybe Wally Pontiff classic) and late in game Ben McDonald came to pitch relief. I was quite surprised because he was theirs starting ace in weekend games. Not sure who LSU coach was then but I didn’t like that decision. McDonald was really over worked and hurt his career.
I really don't know where to begin with this

looking at our schedule, La Tech will probably be the second best OOC opponent we play all year besides #1 Texas so he’s spot on in regards to the RPI.

They beat Maine for Christ sakes. They are a bunch of walk ons and softball rejects

they beat who was on the schedule.

We used to schedule Grambling almost exclusively as one of the games of a two-mid-week-game week. Was that 1 of 2 that week?
But yeah, we've been Johnny Wholestaffing pretty much the entire run of Alan Dunn.
I certainly will not miss changing pitchers with 2 outs in the 9th inning of a midweek game we're winning 11-2.

Th best mindset from a head coach that LSU has never had.

Disappointing that Matt isn't on his show today. I was looking forward to hearing his spin.

It's not so much about RPI as it is about mentality.
This was always the point.
The Game is the game. Read it right there where Jay says it.

Midweek games became an issue most when we started missing on pitchers and our depth went to shite. We didn’t have any choice but to throw half the staff to get through 9 innings.
Speaking of pitchers, did we lose any to arm soreness this off-season or pre-season like the last 4 or 5 seasons?
Posted on 2/22/22 at 4:38 pm to Will2nd
Bollman got injured. Otherwise, maybe a few with a little soreness, but nothing lingering. Knock on wood.
Posted on 2/22/22 at 5:29 pm to Lester Earl
Agreed, having a mentality that any certain game doesn’t matter is toxic.

I don’t think anyone including Mascona ever argued the team should take the attitude that a mid week game does not matter and blow it off. But too many are to locked into their argument and fail to recognize nuance and despite years of baseball success still apply the football mentality that any loss is catastrophic.
Of course we want the players to take the game seriously and you can’t lose all of the mid week games but the point has always been a lose or 3 in the mid week will have no impact on seeding if you take care of business in conference and the region/super regional. In FB lose to Troy and you can probably kiss the playoff good bye. In baseball lose to UNO and it won’t hurt you in any meaningful way
Posted on 2/22/22 at 7:19 pm to H-Town Tiger
I doubt moscona ever put any actual thought into his argument. He’s a blowhard and doesn’t know shite about baseball.

I think Jay will Johnny Wholestaff a lot of games and go with an opener in some of those midweek games. He hinted at that before the season.

And knuckleheads are falling on swords thinking it's the second coming og gorilla ball.
Posted on 2/22/22 at 9:04 pm to ChestRockwell
I don’t think you know what to “fall on the sword” means.

LSU will have a top 10 offense. Come back in June please
