This is what it really comes down to. It is a coin flip if it translates. You put some of our current guys that are struggling up against the pitching that he faced, I'm fairly certain they would have great numbers too. Not saying guy isn't great, but you never know, based upon competition.

He also went from playing 1B to catching nearly every game. That's gonna take a toll on your power

Hernandez wasn’t behind the plate every day last year at IN St either. Combine that with step up in competition and it’s not surprising his numbers have dipped.

That's why CJJ called for the delay - had to lock this kid up.

But Jay needs to recruit Louisiana players!?! -Rant

CJJ must think of baseball 24/7, always looking to improve the Tigers...

Exactly, look at guys that left us, Kling for one, that crushed lesser pitching.

What kind of competition did he face?
Posted on 5/31/25 at 10:33 am to The Egg
Hope CJJ allows guys like Costello and Frey an opportunity at 1b even tho he has this guy coming in. Portal makes it hard to get the young guys chances

Hernandez went from slashing .359/.421/.694 with 23 HR to .248/.312/.475 with 7 HR
Could be level of competition, could be he's not having his best season at the plate. Look at Milam...

High Point is a small private school about 1 hr from Charlotte. It’s a nice little school. A lot like Wofford where Cowan came from.

Small sample size, but in games against Wake and Georgia (the only power conference games on their schedule) he went 1-10 with no rbis against mid week arms

I mean Hernandez went from slashing .359/.421/.694 with 23 HR to .248/.312/.475 with 7 HR. Granted he’s had his number of at bats cut by 43%
He also went from mostly DH last year to working on his catching and catching almost everyday. Not surprising that effected his production at the plate.

He will be playing in front of bigger crowds for sure.
