Why wouldn’t you start Morgan at first?

If Pearson keeps hitting you can, but up until recently the optimal offensive lineup involves Morgan in LF

Dumb arse take. The players lost this game. 0 for 10 with RISP is what lost it.

100% I believe CJJ played this game with post season vision front and center. He spoke openly in the week before the game about pitchers mindsets going into or facing unfavorable conditions.

Edit: someone from the team spoke about the pitchers focusing on that this week.

Little didn't lose this game. He pitched poorly. But, only gave up 1 run

These threads are tiresome. Baseball coaches don’t have nearly as much control over the outcome of a game as football coaches, and maybe even hoops.

This team is very talented, and clearly one of the best in the country. This time of year, it comes down to getting hot. Players go through ups and downs, and a lot of it isn’t dependent on a coach. The greatest coaches and managers usually get canned at some point, and it’s not really because of how they set lineups and the like.

In a generic situation, the putouts made at 1B are plays almost any ball player is capable of making. It’s why so many major league 1B have been immobile hulking power hitters. Very few players are placed at the position for their defensive capabilities and even fewer play the position without being one of the top offensive contributors. It’s not the number of plays that matter, but the difficulty and negative consequences possible from those plays.

That said, we’re not discussing a generic situation. In this specific circumstance, the plays aren’t so routine with the erratic throws of this infield. It’s why I said he needed to test Beloso’s capacity to handle role. That didn’t turn out so well. It’s why I do not expect him to remain there.

Here’s the thing. Coleman only went 3 innings. That means our bullpen has to eat up 6 innings which is an extremely tall task to ask for our bullpen. Will Dutton be the first out of the pen in a meaningful game, no.

Do I agree with making the move to Little in that situation, no but I understand why he did it. If we want to win the whole thing this year, we need more pitchers, more quality pitchers that you can bring in to close out innings/games.

What jay is doing right now is trying to find the guys he can trust in high leverage situations so in elimination games in the post season he can turn to those guys.

Right now we have skenes and Floyd who he absolutely 100% trusts. After that it’s shaky.

Hurd is close. This past relief outing was huge for him.

After that you have Herring and Guidry.

Cooper and Ack are in next tier.

To make run to Omaha we have to have Skenes/Floyd go 7+ innings. If they don’t we are gonna have to score 10+ runs.

I was at the game tonight and we lost the game at first base defense. Crews was way off his game at plate bc change ups. But the umpire tonight had a very, very small strike zone for both teams, and Georgia just happen to get the hit when they needed it because it’s a tight strike zone and the many walks. The LSU boys smack the ball really well but unfortunately right to people and also the defensive switch UGA played worked well for them as well as the bunt they showed 3 times and executed one with perfection, the other two bunt plays they ended up swinging because of two strikes. Everyone calm down we won the series. Let’s get our arms rested. The season starts now.

And Herring looked really good but needs to show fastball and then use his off speed.

One last note that Christian Little threw nine balls in a row. Felt really bad for him as half of those would’ve been called a strike with a different Ump behind the plate.

Nah, the fielding mishaps in the second inning bolloxed the game for Coleman and the Tigers. There's no doubt that Javen could have continued pitching for at least three or four more innings if not for the untimely errors. The game was lost in the field, and via the shift game, which Georgia played well and LSU didn't

Agree. Belosa couldn’t catch 2 routine one bounce throws to help out the infielders. The short hops didn’t even touch his glove. They were thrown right at him. But he did have a good dinger.

Morgan needs to play 1st.

I hope the defensive shift will be banned next year. We smoke some balls right to that shifter. Not sure why we aren’t doing that as well. It worked very good for UGA tonight.

I have been a Morgan in left homer all year but first base play for weeks has cost us some major errors at bad times and to be honest the infield in general has gotten worse with throwing errors the last half of the season. In the beginning they were not committing as many throwing errors so I could live with Morgan in left. On days that Travinski catches DH Jones or Beloso depending on the pitcher. Also another thing you can do is put Morgan at first for Sunday type games where there are alot of hits because of our bullpen.

This right here! ^^^^

When our pitching goes in the tank, so does our hitting. There is a correlation here, and I believe it is called "defeatist attitude."

I thought Travinski looked much better than Beloso at 1st a few games back. Why not give him a shot at 1B? He scooped up 2 iffy throws to 1B, 1 by JT & another by White I believe.
